Location: RAF Fairford, GL7 4DQ

Salary: Competitive plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Perm/FT/40 hours

As a Fuels Technician in our Defence team, you’ll help keep critical fuel operations running safely and smoothly, supporting missions that contribute directly to operational readiness and national defence. You’ll play a key role in ensuring ground fuels, aviation fuels and cryogenic systems are managed to the highest standards, enabling colleagues to carry out their work with confidence.

Every day, your work will help maintain essential services that support both peacetime and wartime requirements. From ensuring environmental compliance to maintaining accuracy across fuel systems, your contribution will create a positive impact and help support the future of defence capability. Our work touches lives through the delivery of trusted services, and your work will have purpose in helping maintain critical operations.

What you’ll do as a Fuels Technician

  • Carry out fuels operations, including the handling and management of ground fuels, aviation fuels and cryogenic systems.
  • Conduct the receipt, storage and issue of fuel from pipelines and tank trucks.
  • Operate fuel dispensing systems, fuel and cryogenic storage facilities, and perform laboratory testing of fuel samples.
  • Determine fuel requirements by analysing current and projected needs to maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Follow operational procedures, system designs and facility layouts to support mission changes and ensure contract compliance.
  • Ensure health, safety and environmental compliance in line with UK Health and Safety legislation and United States Air Force (USAF) safety standards.

Does this sound like you?

  • Demonstrated experience in fuels operations within a military or defence-related environment.
  • Category C driving licence (ADR desirable)
  • Strong understanding of fuels logistics, cryogenics, environmental compliance and reporting requirements.
  • The ability to solve operational problems, manage competing priorities, and work calmly under pressure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to produce accurate written and verbal communication.

Vetting and checks:

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
