ABOUT YOU:
You are a motivated and safety-conscious scientific professional with a degree or HNC in Chemical Sciences or a related discipline. You bring laboratory experience, strong analytical skills, and a methodical approach to your work, alongside excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, you demonstrate integrity, flexibility, and a continuous improvement mindset, with the confidence to adapt to a varied and fast-paced operational environment.
Required skills and experience:
- Degree/Higher National Certificate in chemical sciences or another scientific discipline
- Experience in analytical and general activities performed in a laboratory under a biological or another scientific discipline
- Highly proficiency in computer programs such as MS Office and data entry/recording
- “Can do”, continuous improvement, safety conscious approach
- Organised and methodical approach to work
- High levels of personal integrity when dealing with all aspects of company business
- Sound communication skills both written and oral
- Excellent interpersonal skills – being able to work well with colleagues as part of a team
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently
- Highly flexible
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Full Shift Chemist, you will play a key role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Sullom Voe Terminal laboratory. Responsibilities include conducting routine laboratory testing, collecting and analysing samples from site and third-party locations, preparing analytical and customer reports, and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements. This diverse role offers the opportunity to work across multiple aspects of terminal operations, collaborate with experienced colleagues, and contribute to Intertek's commitment to delivering excellence for our customers.

Key activities:
- Perform all routine testing required at the Sullom Voe Terminal Laboratory to an acceptable standard with the minimum supervision.
- Take samples and perform analyses on site and/or at third party locations.
- Report all analysis relevant to the Terminal operation.
- Prepare third party reports for authorisation by Laboratory Management.
- Primary responsibility will be to the Deputy Laboratory Supervisor.
- Perform duties in a safe manner in accordance with company and Terminal regulations.
- Avoid unsafe acts and follow company Health Safety & Environmental Procedures.
- Ensure familiarity with Health Safety & Environmental information issued by the company.
- Report all accidents and incidents no matter how trivial.
- Report near misses using Near Miss forms.
- Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses where required.
- Ensure that the correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn where required.
- Ensure that safety devices and manufacturer’s instructions are followed when using equipment.
- Participate in Safety Tour Inspections as allocated.
- Act as a representative of the company externally while communicating with clients and professional/technical bodies.
- Actively engage in Intertek’s performance culture focused on exceeding customer expectations.
- Actively promote a strong team culture by supporting assigned laboratory pillars in their goals and objectives.
- Provide support for any other reasonable request for site operations.
