Next.js · React · TypeScript · AI-assisted development

Full-time, permanent | Hybrid: two days a week in our Chandlers Ford office | £40,000 to £48,000 depending on experience

The opportunity

We're looking for a full-stack developer who can build and own production web applications, and who wants to grow into leading the technical side of client projects, from the first conversation through to a fully scoped, documented and working application.

You'll work with Next.js, React and TypeScript, using Claude Code and similar tools as part of your everyday workflow. From day one you'll take real ownership of builds. Over time, with support from the Managing Director and our business analyst, you'll take the lead on technical discovery, specifications and estimates. This is a hands-on role with real influence over our technical decisions and how we deliver projects.

About Onlined

Onlined is a digital agency based in Chandlers Ford, with around 20 years of experience in web design, development, SEO and digital marketing.

We're a small team with long-standing client relationships and a growing portfolio of bespoke application development. You'll work directly with the Managing Director and alongside colleagues in design, development, business analysis and project management.

You'll see projects through from beginning to end, know the people you're building for and have the freedom to improve how we work. We often have several client projects running at once, so balancing priorities and communicating clearly matters.

What you'll do: development and delivery

  • Own technical delivery from the agreed specification through architecture, development, testing, deployment and ongoing improvements.
  • Build applications using Next.js, React and TypeScript, working across interfaces, APIs, databases and integrations.
  • Set up and maintain repositories, development environments and deployment pipelines.
  • Use Claude Code and other AI development tools effectively, reviewing and validating their output.
  • Build security, accessibility, performance and maintainability into your work.
  • Test applications against the agreed requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Communicate progress, risks and scope changes clearly with colleagues and clients.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll grow into: discovery, scoping and documentation

  • Join client discovery meetings and, over time, lead the technical side of them.
  • Turn requirements into clear technical documentation: functionality, user roles and permissions, user journeys, data structures, integrations and non-functional requirements.
  • Identify gaps, assumptions, dependencies and edge cases, and help resolve them before development starts.
  • Help produce scopes of work with clear acceptance criteria, break them into practical phases and contribute to realistic estimates.
  • Keep documentation up to date as decisions are made and requirements evolve.
  • You'll work closely with our business analyst and project managers, and agree estimates and delivery plans with the Managing Director. Commercial negotiations and closing sales remain with the Managing Director.

Some existing client websites use WordPress and WooCommerce. Other team members handle their day-to-day development and maintenance, but you may occasionally help with a more complex issue or integration.

What we're looking for

  • Commercial experience building and maintaining production web applications, typically three years or more.
  • Strong React experience, with Next.js and TypeScript experience or the technical depth to become productive in them quickly.
  • Confidence across the full stack, including APIs, databases, data modelling, authentication and deployment.
  • Practical experience building software with Claude Code or equivalent AI coding tools, and a willingness to use Claude Code in this role.
  • Sound engineering judgement: you can understand, review, debug and improve AI-generated code.
  • A practical approach to testing, validation and reliable releases.
  • Strong attention to detail across code, documentation and interface quality.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical decisions to clients and non-technical colleagues.
  • An interest in working with clients and growing into discovery, scoping and specification.
  • The ability to work independently, take responsibility and ask for input when needed.

Useful additional experience

  • Taking client requirements through discovery, scoping and technical documentation.
  • Working in a digital agency or consultancy across multiple client projects.
  • Experience with Astro for building fast, content-focused websites.
  • Reviewing code, mentoring developers or helping improve development practices.
  • Third-party integrations and connecting business systems.
  • An eye for interface quality, usability and detail.
  • WordPress or WooCommerce experience.

How we work with AI

AI is central to how we plan, document and build. We want someone who enjoys exploring what these tools make possible and can recognise where they fall short.

You'll have room to experiment with better workflows and help shape our approach. You'll also be responsible for checking the accuracy of AI-assisted documentation and understanding the code that gets shipped. Specifications must reflect agreed client requirements, and applications must be reviewed and tested against them.

What we offer

  • £40,000 to £48,000 depending on experience.
  • A clear path into technical leadership, client discovery and solution design.
  • Hybrid working: two days a week in our Chandlers Ford office, with flexibility around how those days are arranged.
  • Flexible working around core hours.
  • 31 days' holiday including bank holidays, plus your birthday off.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Budget and time for learning, tools and experimentation.
  • Direct involvement in technical decisions and how we deliver projects.
  • A small, friendly team where your contribution is visible and your ideas are heard.

How to apply

Please apply with your CV and a short introduction covering:

  • One or two applications you've helped deliver and what you personally contributed.
  • Any experience you have of working with clients on requirements, scoping or technical documentation.
  • How you use Claude Code or other AI coding tools in your development workflow.
  • Your salary expectations and availability to start.
  • Links to live projects, GitHub or a portfolio are welcome, but not essential. If your work is confidential, a brief description of the project and your role is absolutely fine.

You must have the right to work in the UK. We're unable to offer visa sponsorship. This is a hybrid position, so you'll need to be able to attend our Chandlers Ford office two days a week.
