Freelance Full Stack Developers — Project-Based Engagements — Outside IR35
Remote (UK) · £300–£600+ per day
SilkOptima builds software for charities, social care providers, and SMEs — organisations that most tech firms overlook. We diagnose the problem before recommending the technology, so what gets built tends to get used.
We're building a bench of freelance developers to engage on a project-by-project basis. Each engagement has a defined scope, deliverables, and completion date. There's no obligation on either side between projects.
Typical project types
- Desktop applications — Windows tools on.NET and Azure services, including speech and AI integrations. Small, focused products that solve one problem properly.
- Data platforms — pipelines, warehousing, and reporting on SQL Server, Azure, and Power BI, turning messy operational data into something a manager can act on.

What we need you to bring
- Strong C#/.NET and [React/TypeScript]
- SQL and data modelling you can defend
- Azure experience, particularly [App Service, Functions, Storage, OpenAI/Speech]
- Your own equipment, insurance, and working methods.

Also useful
- Python or R, and a statistics background. Some of our work goes beyond reporting into analysis our clients will act on, so knowing when a number is meaningful — and when it isn't — carries real weight.
Rates and engagement terms
£300–£600+ per day depending on the skills the project requires and its complexity. Some projects are quoted as a fixed fee against deliverables instead — we'll confirm which at scoping. Each engagement is set out in a statement of work, and you invoice against it.

You determine how, when, and where the work is done. A right of substitution applies, and there is no expectation of ongoing availability between projects. Projects involve personal data relating to vulnerable people, so engagements require [appropriate insurance, Cyber Essentials-aligned practices, DBS where relevant].
