Job Title
DNA drives the Royal Navy’s capability by delivering digital solutions that increase operational efficiency, effectiveness, and availability. Operating across Official and Secret domains, from shore to sea. DNA provides end-to-end support for bespoke and procured applications.
We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer to join a greenfield project within DNA Data and Navy Applications.
Working alongside the technical lead and the wider team, you will help build a new TypeScript codebase from the first commit, contributing end to end across the service layer and the front-end interfaces on top, deployed to containerised infrastructure. You will work with a good deal of independence, and contribute to the engineering standards and architectural decisions the team settles on.
Responsibilities
- Build out features end to end.
- Integrate with existing services, message queues and databases.
- Work with product designers to turn designs into responsive, accessible (WCAG 2.2 AA) interfaces.
- Design and optimise PostgreSQL schemas and queries.
- Write unit, integration and end-to-end tests, and review other developers' code.
- Own your code through to production: CI/CD pipelines, containerised deployment, and diagnosing issues in running environments.
- Keep dependencies and container images patched, and address security findings as they arise.
- Contribute to technical direction, tooling and standards.
- Take part in Agile ceremonies and technical scoping sessions.

Requirements
Must haves:
- SFIA Level 5
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a track record of delivering features independently.
- Strong TypeScript on both front-end and back-end.
- React, modern CSS, and experience building to WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Node.js, building and consuming REST APIs.
- PostgreSQL: schema design, query optimisation, and use of an ORM.
- Unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
- Git, and practical experience of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).
- Docker, and comfort working with containerised applications.
- Authentication and authorisation using OIDC (e.g. Keycloak).
- Experience working within Agile software delivery.
- Able to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to haves:
- Experience within MOD/Defence or another regulated environment.
- Kubernetes or OpenShift, enough to deploy and debug your own services.
- Infrastructure as code (Helm, Terraform).
- Observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki).
- Exposure to other programming languages and stacks.
Job Details
- Start date: On or around 4th November 2026
- Initial contract length: 6 months with possibility of extension
- Role location: Portsmouth
- Nationality specification: Sole British Citizen only
- Number of days per week expected on site: 1-2 per sprint (fortnightly)
- Minimum security level: SC or above
- Day rate: £470
