For one of our leading public sector clients, we are searching for experienced freelance Software Engineers (SC Cleared) to support a major digital transformation programme within the UK Government. You'll join a newly formed team responsible for building and delivering a critical service that enables the secure exchange of tax information. This is a hands-on full stack engineering role focused on AWS-based development, API integration and production delivery.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and deploy secure, scalable cloud-native applications using AWS services
  • Build and enhance services that enable the exchange of tax information between systems
  • Develop backend services, APIs and integrations using Java and AWS technologies
  • Contribute across the full software development lifecycle from design through to production deployment
  • Work closely with Test Engineers to ensure high levels of quality, automation and service reliability
  • Collaborate with platform, connectivity and legacy system teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Work within agile, multidisciplinary teams delivering services into Beta and Live environments

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer or Software Developer within complex technology environments
  • Strong AWS development experience across cloud-native architectures and services
  • Commercial experience developing applications using Java
  • Experience designing, building and integrating REST APIs and API Gateway solutions
  • Front-end development experience using HTML5 and modern web technologies
  • Strong understanding of software testing, automation and quality engineering principles
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams and modern engineering practices
  • Experience delivering secure, high-availability production services
  • Previous public sector, government or highly regulated industry experience is desirable

Role Details

  • Location: Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle (supplier offices can be utilised)
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid working with 60% office attendance expected
  • Delivery Phase: Beta/Live
  • Clearance: Active SC Clearance
  • Contract: Freelance / Contract
  • SFIA Level: SFIA 4
