Role: Full Stack Engineer (Backend-Focused)

Location: St Albans (Hybrid – 2 days per week in office)

Morgan McKinley has partnered with a leading UK wealth management firm to assist in hiring a Full Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus.

Managing over £1.6 billion in client assets and trusted by over 4,000 families, our client provides personable financial advice and top-tier investment management services. As they continue to expand their digital platform, they are looking for a backend-centric engineer to build and scale the systems powering their core financial services.

If you enjoy clean Node.js architecture, robust relational database design, and working in an environment where a proactive, "take the wheel" mindset is genuinely rewarded, this is a fantastic opportunity.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building and scaling production web applications using TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
  • Designing and maintaining reliable relational database schemas and optimizing complex SQL queries.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to modernise the technical infrastructure behind their wealth management solutions.
  • Taking end-to-end ownership of features—asking questions, bringing ideas, and driving engineering best practices.

Essential:

  • 3+ years commercial experience building production web applications using TypeScript and React, with a clear bias toward backend development.
  • Node.js Proficiency: Strong background in backend architecture, API development, and system logic.
  • Solid SQL Skills: Hands-on experience working with relational databases and query optimization.

Desirable:

  • Background in Financial Services or Wealth Management.
  • Exposure to cloud & DevOps toolchains: AWS (EKS), Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
