Full Stack Engineer
Location: Southampton
Employment type: Full-time / permanent
The Role
We’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer to design, develop, and maintain application and software solutions that support our clients' business needs through innovation, creativity, and professionalism.
You will contribute to the next generation of software products while supporting and enhancing existing applications and codebases. Working across C++ application software, backend services, and web interfaces, you will help deliver reliable, intuitive, and maintainable solutions. You will work closely with other engineers and stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle, from understanding requirements and defining software architecture through to implementation, testing, and release.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop software across application, backend, and frontend components.
- Develop and maintain C++ applications, including interfaces to control software and supporting systems.
- Build backend services and APIs to support communication between applications, user interfaces, and connected systems.
- Create functional, responsive web interfaces using standard web technologies.
- Translate business and technical requirements into practical software designs.
- Extend and improve existing codebases, resolving defects and identifying opportunities to improve performance and maintainability.
- Develop and test software for Windows and Linux environments.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to consistent coding standards and development practices.
- Investigate software issues and support integration, testing, and product releases.
- Maintain clear documentation covering software architecture, interfaces, and technical decisions.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline or a software engineering qualification, supported by industry experience.
- Strong C++ skills, with demonstrable knowledge of C++11 or later.
- A solid understanding of software design, architecture, and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with backend server design, application structure, and API development.
- Familiarity with standard web technologies, including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Frontend development experience, with the ability to construct functional web pages and user interfaces.
- Familiarity with Python and structured data formats such as XML and JSON.
- Experience developing or supporting software on Windows and Linux.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to debugging.
- The ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and work effectively within an engineering team.

Desirable Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with the development of control software.
- Experience with frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
- Knowledge of databases and data persistence.
- Experience using Git, automated testing, and continuous integration tools.
- Familiarity with network communication and integrating software with connected devices.
- Experience improving application performance and applying secure software development practices.
