Job Title: Senior Full Stack Engineer (AI-Focused)
Location: Sheffield, UK
Work Mode: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite
Contract Duration: 9-12 months
Experience: 10+ years
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Full Stack Engineer (AI-Focused) to join our banking technology team in Sheffield.
This is a hands-on engineering role suited to an experienced professional who can lead by example, collaborate effectively with stakeholders, and help shape engineering standards while delivering high-quality software at pace.
The ideal candidate will have strong full stack engineering capabilities, a solid frontend foundation in ReactJS and TypeScript, backend engineering expertise, practical AI/ML experience, and the ability to support DevOps and software reliability.
You will also be responsible for providing technical direction, mentoring engineers, and promoting best practices across the engineering lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Full Stack Engineering
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality full stack software applications.
- Build responsive and scalable frontend solutions using ReactJS and TypeScript.
- Develop and integrate backend APIs and services.
- Ensure application performance, security, maintainability, and reliability.
AI/ML Engineering
- Build and integrate AI-driven features into software products.
- Work with modern AI models, frameworks, and development tooling.
- Apply AI/ML engineering principles to practical business use cases.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to deliver AI-enabled solutions.

Backend Development
- Design and develop robust APIs and integrations.
- Support backend architecture, performance optimization, and security.
- Develop scalable and maintainable services.
- Contribute to technical decisions related to application architecture and integration.
DevOps & Reliability
- Support CI/CD pipelines and software release processes.
- Implement automation and environment management practices.
- Contribute to application observability and reliability.
- Work with engineering teams to improve deployment and operational processes.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical direction and guidance to engineering teams.
- Mentor developers and support knowledge sharing.
- Lead code reviews and promote coding standards.
- Drive good engineering practices, including testing, documentation, security, and maintainability.
- Support technical problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and delivery teams.
- Partner with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.
- Contribute to technical discussions, architecture decisions, and delivery planning.

Essential Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong full stack engineering experience with a solid frontend foundation.
- Strong hands-on experience with ReactJS and TypeScript.
- Strong backend engineering mindset, including:
- API design and development.
- System integration.
- Performance optimization.
- Application security.
- Practical AI/ML engineering experience, including building or integrating AI-driven features into software products.
- Experience with DevOps practices, including:
- CI/CD.
- Automation.
- Environment management.
- Observability.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience providing technical direction, mentoring, and code review leadership.
- Ability to work onsite in Sheffield 3 days per week.
Desirable Skills
- Strong Python development experience, particularly for AI and data workloads.
- Experience building AI or data-related services using Python.
- Strong data engineering experience, including:
- Data pipelines.
- Data modelling.
- Analytics and feature engineering.
- Working with structured and unstructured data.
- Experience with modern AI/ML models and development tooling.
- Experience working in enterprise or banking environments.
