Senior Full Stack Engineer
We're recruiting a senior Full Stack Engineer for a Government AI unit that's building and shipping AI-native products used directly by front-line teams across the sector. This will require full personal ownership of shipping an AI product end to end, delivering a real, tangible result for users, with security and production reliability considered throughout.
You'll build and own full-stack features yourself - frontend and backend both, not one side handed off to someone else - integrating AI capability into a live product and carrying it through to a measurable outcome. It's a fast-moving team with real scope to shape how things get built, not just execute a fixed spec.
Role responsibilities
- Building and shipping full-stack features into live production, owning frontend and backend personally rather than one side alone
- Integrating AI capability - LLM-powered workflows, speech-to-text, document generation - into real product features
- Designing and evolving the database layer: schema design, migrations, data integrity
- Handling API and auth integration end to end
- Working closely with non-technical, operational stakeholders to translate real problems into shipped features
- Iterating fast while treating security and reliability as part of the same piece of work, not an afterthought

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Person requirements
- Strong production experience across a modern frontend framework and a Python backend, with genuine personal ownership of both sides - not frontend-only or backend-only work dressed up as full stack
- Hands-on experience shipping AI-native features into production with a measurable, tangible outcome for users, not just familiarity with the underlying tools
- Solid database skills: schema design, migrations, working with relational data at production scale
- Experience with API design and auth integration
- Comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders and adapting to changing requirements
- Version control and CI/CD as second nature
- A fast, iterative shipping style that still builds in security and reliability from the outset
Desirable
- LLM feature-building experience: prompt engineering, structured outputs, multi-provider routing, retrieval-augmented generation
- Experience with LLM observability tooling
- Cloud infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform or equivalent) on a major cloud provider
- Speech-to-text or audio pipeline experience
- Experience designing safeguards for AI systems - prompt-injection defences, least-privilege access, human approval points, auditable decision trails
- An entrepreneurial or startup mentality
- Genuinely current on what's happening in AI
