Full Stack Engineer – Innovation Engineering (Matomo)
About the Role
Build and deliver the next generation of privacy-first analytics capabilities — spanning rapid prototyping, AI-powered insights, and scalable product innovations embedded within Matomo’s core platform. Own end-to-end innovation development in a small, autonomous team, collaborating directly with the CTO and senior engineers to turn concepts into production-ready solutions.

Matomo is an open-source analytics platform trusted by enterprises, public institutions, and governments for full data ownership. Matomo is expanding its European engineering team and seeks a Full Stack Engineer to shape and validate the future direction of its product offering via innovation-focused development.

What You’ll Own
Innovation Engineering & Product Development
- Design, prototype, and deliver new features across:
- Backend: PHP (core technology)
- Frontend: JavaScript (alongside Python/Node.js as needed)
- Rapidly explore and validate product ideas (e.g., AI-driven analytics, user experience upgrades, data visualisation)
- Identify innovation opportunities across:
- Core analytics
- Data visualisation
- Integrations
- User experience

End-to-End Ownership & Delivery
- Drive ideas from concept through production
- Prioritise efficient delivery without premature complexity
- Operate in an autonomous team with minimal oversight
- Proactively予解决blocks and escalate when needed
Product Impact & Technical Excellence
- Balance business value with technical debt avoidance
- Implement scalable, secure code with:
- Automated tests (TDD)
- Code reviews
- Clear technical documentation
- Mitigate security vulnerabilities proactively
- Stay updated on emerging tech, frameworks, and industry trends
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Partner directly with Matomo’s founders and engineers via:
- Slack, Jira, and Confluence
- Share prototypes, learnings, and innovation best practices
- Communicate ideas and trade-offs effectively in a remote-first global environment
What You’ll Bring
Requirements
- 3–5 years experience in:
- Backend: PHP OR Python + databases
- Frontend: JavaScript
- Portfolio of end-to-end feature delivery (concept → prototype → production)
- Problem-solving pragmatism:
- Ability to balance speed and quality
- Minimal-engineering mentality (avoid complexity without purpose)
- Product-oriented mindset:
- Translate user needs into impactful solutions
- Can prioritise autonomously
- Security-readiness:
- Knowledge of vulnerabilities and mitigations
- Collaborative culture:
- Test writing, code reviews, and documentation clarity
- Strong written (English) technical communication
- Fully remote, agile-adaptable workflows

Compensation
€70,000–€80,000 per year (competitive base + remote benefits applying)
