Fullstack Software Developer, Help Build Software That Solves Real World Problems
I'm working with a growing UK software business that is transforming the way organisations manage fire and building safety compliance.
Their platform is trusted by many of the UK's largest property owners, managers and consultancies, helping modernise an industry that has traditionally relied on outdated, document driven processes. Instead, they're building intelligent software that makes critical safety data easier to capture, manage and act upon.
With a strong product, an established customer base and exciting growth plans, they're now looking for a talented Fullstack Software Developer to join the team.
The Opportunity
This is an ideal role for an engineer who wants to take genuine ownership and continue developing their technical expertise within a growing engineering team.
- You'll work closely with experienced technical leaders and play an important role in developing and modernising the platform.
- You'll have the opportunity to contribute to technical decisions, architectural discussions and engineering standards, while also supporting and mentoring more junior developers.
This isn't an environment where you'll simply work through tickets. You'll be encouraged to understand the underlying customer problems, challenge ideas, contribute solutions and think about how software should be designed, built and evolved.
The team is particularly interested in engineers with strong software engineering fundamentals. While the current platform uses technologies including TypeScript, Node.js, React and AWS, they are open to developers coming from different technical backgrounds, including .NET, Python, Go and other strongly typed or backend focused environments.
The language or framework you've used previously is less important than your ability to understand software architecture, work with APIs and existing systems, solve complex engineering problems and apply sound technical principles.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building new features across modern web applications
- Enhancing and modernising existing systems and a large established codebase
- Designing, developing and maintaining APIs and backend services
- Working with and improving existing monolithic architecture
- Contributing to decisions around how the platform should evolve and be modernised
- Supporting integrations with third party platforms and services
- Working with relational databases and data driven applications
- Investigating and resolving production issues
- Writing clean, maintainable and well tested code
- Reviewing code and supporting the development of junior engineers
- Contributing to architectural discussions and technical planning
- Improving engineering standards, tooling and development processes
- Working with cloud infrastructure and modern development practices
- Collaborating closely with Product, Customer Success and technical leadership
- Exploring and implementing AI driven automation where it can create genuine value for customers and the product

What They're Looking For
Essential
- Commercial experience as a software developer
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and understanding of core engineering principles
- Experience building backend services and APIs
- Good understanding of software architecture and how applications are designed and structured
- Experience working with existing codebases, including legacy or monolithic systems
- Experience working with relational databases
- Ability to write clean, maintainable and well tested code
- Strong debugging and problem solving skills
- Experience using Git and modern development workflows
- Experience working with AWS or another major cloud platform
- Ability to understand technical problems and make pragmatic engineering decisions
- Previous experience mentoring, supporting or reviewing the work of junior developers
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience using AI developer tools to improve productivity
Technical Background
The current environment includes TypeScript, Node.js, React and AWS, but experience with this exact stack is not essential.
They are open to engineers coming from backgrounds including:

- Other modern software engineering environments
What's most important is that you have strong engineering fundamentals and can demonstrate that you understand APIs, architecture, backend systems, databases, testing and how to work effectively within and improve an existing codebase.
