Bounty has supported UK parents since 1959, when it launched with hospital-given packs for new mothers, and today reaches millions of families each year through the Bounty app, prenatal packs in clinical settings, and bounty.com. Bounty is part of Joy, an AI-powered parenting platform that pairs certified experts with AI to give parents round-the-clock support, alongside sister brands and services across the group.
The Bounty app and bounty.com support hundreds of thousands of parents each month through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. We're now investing in a full modernisation of the platform behind that experience — a ground-up rebuild designed to give the business a faster, more flexible foundation for years to come. We're hiring the person who'll lead that rebuild.
The role in brief
Come in, understand what we've built to date, then design and build a modern replacement for the backend APIs that power the mobile app and website. Preserve the existing users, their data, and our search ranking through the move. Then rebuild the website on the new backend.
What you'll be doing
Understand the current platform
- Get familiar with our current environment: Sitecore, SQL Server and.NET on Azure IaaS, along with a network of scheduled tasks, SFTP feeds, and partner integrations built up over time.
- Some areas are better documented than others, so part of the role is building a clear, first-hand picture by exploring the code and observing the live systems directly, supported by AI tooling to move quickly.
- Document your findings and recommended approach: target stack, migration plan, realistic timeline, risks, and how we keep the app and website running throughout the rebuild.
Rebuild the backend
- Design and build the replacement backend API from scratch. We already have the mobile app's API contract documented (OpenAPI 3.1 spec, around 40 endpoints, mapped from the app codebases). The new backend needs to match that contract so we don't have to re-ship the app.
- Migrate existing users and their data (accounts, permissions, engagement history, vouchers, editorial content) into the new data model. Nobody should have to re-register.
- Switch over from the current backend once you're confident, with a written rollback plan you've tested in advance.

Rebuild the website
- SEO is the biggest priority to protect. Rebuild bounty.com off Sitecore onto a modern stack you propose and we agree together. The site ranks well, and that ranking is worth real money, so URLs, redirects, and structured data all need to carry over cleanly.
Keep it running
- Once the move is complete, the day-to-day is keeping the new stack healthy and making sure integrations (Klaviyo, Purchasely, partner feeds) stay reliable.
- Our React-based Voucher Management System sits with you too, both keeping it running and picking up feature work on it.
- You'll also keep the analytics pipelines healthy (BigQuery, Looker Studio, Mixpanel) so the business team can rely on them for reporting.
Build what's next
- With solid foundations in place, you'll work with the Bounty team on their product roadmap: new features, improvements to what's there, and whatever the business needs from a platform built to move quickly. This is where the rebuild starts paying off.
Who you are
Non-negotiables
- Lead-level full-stack engineer. You can own a whole system yourself, from database through backend and frontend to deployment and monitoring, and you're comfortable making the architectural calls. You'll own this project end-to-end, with our mobile app engineers available to support you where the app side needs input.
- Strong production backend in Node/TypeScript. We're standardising on TypeScript across the stack, so this role can extend into other engineering work at Bounty (and sister brand Joy) over time. React/TypeScript on the frontend is a given.
- API design discipline. REST, OpenAPI, versioning, backward compatibility, deprecation. You've kept a client-consumed API stable over time.
- Comfort with established systems. You don't need prior experience with our specific stack, but you're comfortable getting to grips with systems that are new to you — reading the actual code and running the actual systems rather than guessing.
- Sensible use of AI-assisted development. You use AI tools day-to-day and know when to trust them and when not to, especially around company data, IP, and hallucinations.
- Clear writing. You can put together a technical proposal or a handover document without hand-holding. You'll be writing for non-technical stakeholders throughout.
- Good judgement about scope. You know when to park a nice-to-have because it's holding up the critical path, and when to flag a scope risk before it becomes a delivery problem.

Nice to have
- You've led a live data migration before, at real scale, without losing data or breaking things. You understand why dual-write, reconciliation, and a rehearsed cutover matter.
- SEO awareness (URL preservation, canonical tags, structured data, redirect chains).
- Azure and/or GCP experience. We're on Azure today and moving toward GCP to align with the wider organisation.
Explicitly not required
- Please don't rule yourself out because you haven't used our specific stack or third-party tools before.
- None of that is a blocker, the parts that matter, you'll pick up quickly.

- Salary range £90k–£115k, depending on experience.
- Remote (UK), with occasional in-person time for team offsites.
