KOIOS

KOIOS is a Winchester-based company building a universal semantic layer for industrial product data. Our dictionary holds over 400,000 concepts drawn from international standards, and we hold IRDI Authority status. Our founder, Peter Eales, is the project leader of both ISO 8000-110:2021, and ISO 29002:2026.

KOIOS was founded in 2017, and the platform is in commercial deployment with enterprise clients today. We are contracted to a global industrial distributor to rationalise their product data model and onboard supplier catalogues across thousands of manufacturers — a programme already running across multiple workstreams, against a catalogue taking on hundreds of new product classes every month.

We are building the team accordingly. This is one of several roles opening across the dictionary, the graph and the platform, as we increase the pace at which we deliver.

The platform is a suite of modules that share one foundation. K:core holds the governed concept dictionary. K:spec is where product and other customer data is loaded and held against it. K:clns cleanses and resolves incoming data. K:trak handles trade compliance, including HS6 tariff classification. K:spir addresses spares and parts identification in capital-intensive industries such as LNG. Alongside these sit our identifier services.

Each module has its own data model, its own workflow and its own users — and they are only valuable together. Making them behave as one product is the central engineering problem here.

What the work looks like

  • Building the review and management interfaces across the module suite — Angular (Angular Material) and TypeScript on the frontend, the services behind them on the back.
  • Designing interfaces for high-volume human judgement. This is the interesting design problem: someone will use these screens to make thousands of decisions, so the difference between a good and a bad interaction is measured in weeks of someone's life.
  • Building and extending shared backend services in Java (Spring Boot) and Python (FastAPI): designing APIs, the resolution service, extract generation, and the plumbing between MySQL, Neo4j and Azure that every module depends on.
  • Holding the seams between modules. Where K:spec hands to K:clns, or K:trak needs a concept K:core governs, someone has to own the contract between them.
  • Working in our Azure environment day to day - provisioning resources, managing Key Vault secrets and access, and keeping production and staging services (deployed via Container Apps and Linux VMs) healthy.
  • Sharing architectural decisions with our lead platform engineer rather than receiving them.
  • Talking to customers. The person who built the screen is often the person who demonstrates it, and enterprise clients expect to meet the people who made the thing.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Solid full-stack experience - comfortable across Angular, Java and/or Python, and able to take a feature from a rough description to something in production.
  • Real interest in interface and interaction design. Not visual polish for its own sake, but caring whether the person on the other side can actually do their job.
  • Comfortable with MySQL.
  • Comfortable working with cloud infrastructure — we run on Azure, and you'll be provisioning resources, managing secrets and access, and troubleshooting production services, not just deploying to one.
  • Understanding and interest in Data Quality.
  • The right to work in the UK, and the ability to work from our Winchester office.

An advantage, not required

  • TypeScript, and specifically Angular Material, which is our component library of choice.
  • Spring Boot (Java) or FastAPI (Python) - our two current backend frameworks.
  • Graph databases, Neo4j.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (we use Bicep) alongside Azure or another major cloud.
  • Any exposure to master data, PIM, ERP integration, or the industrial supply chain.
  • Design skills, or a habit of prototyping UX/UI in the browser rather than in a document.
  • Experience with Distributed Systems.

What we offer

  • A genuine say in architecture, as we build out the engineering function rather than inherit someone else's decisions.
  • Equity through our EMI share option scheme, alongside salary.
  • A growing diverse team in a building by the river in Winchester.

Location and working pattern

Based at The Pump House, Garnier Road, Winchester. This role is office-based by default — you would be working closely enough with one other engineer that proximity matters.

Applicants should be within commuting distance of Winchester.
