Staff Full Stack Developer (Scala / TypeScript / React) | 📍 London (1 day per week onsite) | 💸 Up to £625/day (Inside IR35 via Umbrella) | 6-month contract
I'm working with one of the world's best-known independent news organisations, and they're looking for a Staff-level Full Stack Developer to help shape the technical direction of the web platform behind their journalism.
What you'll be doing:
- Helping set the long-term technical vision and strategy for the web platform
- Acting as a go-to technical authority across the engineering community, raising standards and improving ways of working
- Leading collaborative projects with web engineers, product designers, UX and product leads
- Building mostly in TypeScript (React, Emotion) on the front end and Scala on the back end, running in AWS
- Working in an empowered, cross-functional team that iterates and ships quickly
- Pairing and collaborating closely with developers, editorial and commercial colleagues
- Weighing in on product decisions as well as technical ones

- 10+ years' experience building for the web
- A track record of leading teams and significant projects in a fast-moving, product-led digital environment
- Experience building and maintaining high-traffic, high-performance platforms with wide organisational impact
- Comfort working across a modern TypeScript/React front end and a Scala back end (you don't need to be an expert in everything, but you should be keen to learn)
- Confidence turning product and business requirements into technical solutions
- Hands-on experience applying security best practice
