About The Client
Our client is a large public sector organisation delivering modern digital services within a secure and highly governed technology environment. They are continuing to develop and improve cloud-based applications that support important operational and customer-facing services.
About The Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer to design, build, and enhance modern web applications within a mixed Azure and AWS environment. You will work across the full development lifecycle, combining React and Next.js frontend development with Python-based backend engineering. The role will involve building accessible user experiences, developing APIs, working with search technologies, and contributing to secure, reliable application delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop responsive and accessible applications using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
- Design and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Python and FastAPI or Flask.
- Develop application functionality using Elasticsearch and other search or data services.
- Implement secure authentication and authorisation, including OAuth2 and Microsoft Entra ID integrations.
- Produce clean, maintainable, version-controlled, and well-tested code.
- Integrate frontend applications with internal APIs, services, and data sources.
- Diagnose and resolve application issues across performance, security, and usability.
- Contribute to automated testing, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
- Maintain technical documentation and support the definition of technical requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams throughout delivery.

Essential Experience & Technical Skills
- Strong commercial experience with React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
- Strong backend development experience using Python.
- Experience developing APIs using FastAPI, Flask, or similar Python frameworks.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
- Knowledge of Elasticsearch or comparable search indexing technologies.
- Experience with OAuth2 authentication flows, ideally involving Microsoft Entra ID.
- Strong HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript knowledge.
- Experience with Git and modern source control practices.
- Knowledge of automated testing and software quality practices.
- Understanding of cloud-based application development and deployment.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within Agile development teams.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working across Azure and AWS environments.
- Docker and containerised application development.
- GitHub Actions and CI/CD pipeline development.
- PyGeoAPI experience.
- SQL or relational database experience.
- Jira and Confluence.
- Experience working within government, public sector, or other secure environments.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
