About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead to join our team on a pivotal project within the public sector. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and support a talented team of software engineers in designing, developing, and deploying bespoke software solutions that address complex operational challenges for a Central Government client. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technical leader with a passion for building innovative, scalable, and secure applications. You will work within an Agile environment, collaborating closely with stakeholders to produce high-quality solutions that meet stringent security and performance standards. Your expertise will guide architectural decisions, ensure best practices are followed, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess strong commercial experience in software engineering, particularly in modern application development. Essential qualifications include a robust background in Java development, with demonstrated experience in designing and building solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS. Proficiency in full-stack development using JavaScript, React, and TypeScript is required. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading engineering teams or providing technical direction, along with a deep understanding of software architecture, technical design, and the full software development lifecycle. Familiarity with DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, containers, and Infrastructure as Code is advantageous. Additionally, candidates must meet security clearance requirements, including UK nationality and residency history, to access sensitive government projects.

Responsibilities

As a Software Technical Lead, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting a team of software engineers
  • Providing technical guidance
  • Ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions
  • Designing, developing, and testing bespoke software tailored to operational needs
  • Producing solution architectures and technical designs that align with project requirements
  • Building full-stack applications using Java, JavaScript, React, and TypeScript
  • Designing and deploying cloud-based solutions primarily on AWS
  • Creating continuous integration pipelines with tools like GitLab
  • Managing the full software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment, support, and maintenance
  • Promoting best practices in software quality, security, and engineering standards
  • Effective communication with clients and stakeholders to translate their needs into practical technical solutions
