About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Software Technical Lead to join our team working on a high-profile Central Government project. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a senior software engineer who enjoys remaining hands-on while providing technical leadership and strategic direction. As a Software Technical Lead, you will work within a collaborative Agile environment, designing and developing bespoke software solutions that address complex operational challenges faced by government agencies. Your expertise will be pivotal in guiding the development team, ensuring high standards of quality, security, and efficiency are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java development, full-stack application design, and cloud-based solutions, particularly with AWS. You will be responsible for producing technical designs, solution architectures, and overseeing the deployment of scalable, secure software in both public and private cloud environments. This role requires excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders, translating their requirements into practical technical solutions. Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise and leadership experience, including:
- Strong commercial experience in Java development and modern application frameworks
- Proven experience designing and building solutions on AWS cloud platforms
- Full-stack development skills using JavaScript, React, and TypeScript
- Experience leading engineering teams or providing technical guidance
- Deep understanding of software architecture, technical design, and the full software development lifecycle
- Knowledge of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, containers, and Infrastructure as Code
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to translate customer challenges into effective technical solutions
- Security clearance eligibility, including being a British citizen and having resided in the UK for the past five years
Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment
- Design, develop, and test bespoke software solutions aligned with project requirements
- Provide technical direction and ensure adherence to best practices in security, quality, and engineering standards
- Create solution architectures and technical designs that are scalable, secure, and maintainable
- Build full-stack applications utilizing Java, JavaScript, React, and TypeScript
- Design and deploy cloud-based solutions primarily using AWS, ensuring high availability and security
- Establish and maintain continuous integration pipelines using tools such as GitLab
- Manage the entire software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment, support, and maintenance
- Promote high standards of software quality, security, and engineering practices across the team
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and communicate technical solutions effectively
- Contribute to ongoing innovation by sharing knowledge within technical guilds and participating in learning initiatives
