Full Stack / Back End Java Developer – AI
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Contract: 12 Months (PAYE)
Rate: £550 per day PAYE (£66.94 per hour base rate, excluding holiday pay accrual)
We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Java Developer, Back End Java Developer, or strong Front End Developer to join a high-performing engineering team on a 12-month PAYE contract based in London.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on enterprise-scale applications, using modern development practices and AI-assisted coding tools to deliver innovative software solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test and maintain enterprise software applications.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar as part of day-to-day coding, testing and code review.
- Develop RESTful APIs and web services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning and technical discussions.
- Troubleshoot, debug and resolve software issues.
- Contribute to code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the software engineering function.

Required Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Core Java and Java EE.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs, web services and Service-Oriented Architecture.
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming, Design Patterns and Application Architecture.
- Experience with Spring Boot, JUnit, BDD and automated testing frameworks.
- Strong SQL skills with database design experience.
- Experience working within Unix/Linux environments.
- Front-end development experience using HTML, TypeScript, CSS, with Angular experience highly desirable.
- Good understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrable experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar within a commercial software development environment.
- Strong communication skills with experience collaborating across engineering teams and business stakeholders.
