Are you an experienced Full Stack Java / J2EE Developer looking for a role where your work will make a visible difference?

At Castelan, we're entering an exciting phase of growth, digital transformation, and innovation. As a trusted furniture care, repair, and warranties organisation working with independent retailers and major UK national brands, our technology platforms play a vital role in supporting our customers, partners, and internal teams.

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Java / J2EE Developer with a minimum of four years' hands-on commercial development experience. This is not an entry-level or graduate position; we are looking for someone who can confidently contribute from day one across both front-end and back-end development.

Why join us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of meaningful development projects across the full software lifecycle - from requirements analysis and solution design through to development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement. You'll work on business-critical systems, cloud-based solutions, integrations, and scalable digital platforms in a collaborative environment where your technical input will be valued.

You will bring at least four years' hands-on commercial Java / J2EE development experience, ideally gained in a fast-paced business environment. This role is suited to an established developer rather than a recent graduate or entry-level candidate. If you're looking for a role that offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to broaden your technical exposure as Castelan continues to evolve its digital landscape, this could be the next step for you.

What You'll Be Doing

In this role, you'll:

  • Design, build, enhance, and maintain Java and J2EE applications that support key business processes
  • Work across front-end and back-end technologies as part of varied development projects
  • Contribute to solution design, technical discussions, peer reviews, and application walkthroughs
  • Support system integrations, APIs, cloud-based platforms, and connected digital solutions
  • Help resolve production issues and deliver robust, reliable fixes
  • Create clear technical documentation to support handover, knowledge sharing, and long-term support
  • Contribute to build, deployment, release, and continuous improvement practices
  • Work with stakeholders and internal teams to understand requirements and recommend practical technical solutions

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
