About The Role
G.R.E. Recruitment is excited to partner with a leading Legal Tech organization seeking a highly skilled Lead Full Stack Ruby Developer. This pivotal role offers an excellent opportunity for a technically proficient professional with leadership capabilities to influence the future of legal technology solutions. The role is hybrid, requiring approximately 60-70% hands-on coding and 30-40% team management. As a Lead Full Stack Developer, you will be responsible for guiding a talented engineering team, enhancing development processes, and contributing directly to the design and implementation of innovative products. You will work closely with the CTO to make architectural decisions, improve code review practices, and streamline workflows to ensure high-quality, scalable solutions. The position offers a competitive salary range of £80,000 - £85,000 plus benefits, with the flexibility of working remotely most of the time and visiting the Burgess Hill office once a quarter.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in full-stack development with expertise in Ruby on Rails, SQL, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, and modern frameworks such as ReactJS and NextJS. Experience working with APIs and cloud services like AWS is essential. Candidates should have prior leadership experience, ideally as a Lead Developer, Senior Developer, or Development Manager, demonstrating the ability to manage and mentor technical teams effectively. Excellent communication skills are crucial for collaborating across departments and presenting technical concepts clearly. A pragmatic, collaborative approach to process improvement and a keen interest in building high-performing engineering cultures are highly desirable. Familiarity with AI technologies, understanding their benefits and risks, and how to adopt them safely and effectively will be considered an advantage.
Responsibilities
As a Lead Full Stack Ruby Developer, your responsibilities will include:
- Guiding the development team in designing and implementing scalable, maintainable solutions using Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, and related technologies.
- Collaborating with the CTO to define architectural standards, review code, and ensure best practices are followed.
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the engineering team, including conducting regular coaching sessions, 1:1 meetings, and performance reviews.
- Overseeing the development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery of features and fixes while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Contributing to strategic planning around product development, technical innovation, and process improvements.
- Fostering a collaborative team environment, encouraging knowledge sharing, and promoting continuous learning to keep the team at the forefront of technological advancements.
