Full Stack Software Engineer - Permanent
Location: London
The opportunity
We have a permanent opportunity for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join the Robert Walters Workforce Consultancy Programme. You will be permanently employed through the programme and deployed on assignment to one of our blue-chip clients. We work with more than 50 major organisations across the UK, predominantly within financial services and insurance, as well as several other industries.
In this assignment, you will join a Client Engagement and Digital Content Platforms team within a leading global asset management organisation. You will help build, enhance and support digital platforms used for content management, distribution, search, analytics and client engagement.
What you'll be doing
- Developing modern full-stack applications using React.js, Next.js and Node.js.
- Building responsive, accessible and high-performing digital experiences.
- Creating secure and scalable backend services, APIs and integrations.
- Working across the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring and production support.
- Supporting cloud-native solutions, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices.
- Writing automated tests and promoting high engineering and quality standards.
- Using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity, quality and delivery.
- Collaborating with Product Managers, Business Analysts, UX specialists, Marketing, Sales and fellow engineers.
- Monitoring production systems and improving their performance, reliability and maintainability.
- Contributing to Agile planning, refinement, showcases and retrospectives.
- Taking ownership of solutions and delivering measurable business value.

What we're looking for
- Strong commercial experience developing modern full-stack applications.
- Strong React.js skills and experience with Next.js or a similar framework.
- Experience developing backend services and APIs with Node.js.
- A solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns and maintainable application architecture.
- Experience with cloud technologies; Microsoft Azure experience would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with automated testing and modern quality-engineering practices.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and the AI-enabled software development lifecycle.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience working in Agile teams and collaborating with technical and business stakeholders.
Desirable experience
- Financial services or asset management.
- High-traffic digital platforms and websites.
- Headless content management systems and SaaS search providers.
- Python, serverless technologies or cloud-native architectures.
- Application monitoring and observability.
- Working with Marketing, Sales or Digital teams.
- Globally distributed technology teams.

You will be pragmatic, curious and focused on outcomes. You can balance technical excellence with changing business priorities and are comfortable taking a problem from initial analysis through to a reliable production solution. You will enjoy collaborating with others, sharing ideas and challenging existing approaches while also being capable of working independently and taking ownership of your delivery.
