Software Engineer, Full-Stack Applications (Python)
A leading global financial services organisation is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join its technology team in Manchester.
You'll work with modern technologies including Python, React, AWS and Kubernetes, while having the opportunity to explore emerging technologies such as AI and machine learning.
You'll Be Responsible For
- Developing full-stack applications - Design, build and maintain robust, scalable applications using Python, including frameworks such as FastAPI and Flask, alongside modern React-based frontend applications.
- Building APIs and backend services - Develop well-structured, maintainable services and APIs that integrate with internal systems and data platforms.
- Working across the development lifecycle - Write clean, testable code, contribute to CI/CD pipelines, participate in code reviews and support applications through to production.
- Working with databases and data - Develop solutions using relational databases such as PostgreSQL and Oracle, alongside NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB.
- Cloud and containerised development - Deploy and support applications within cloud environments, using technologies such as AWS and Kubernetes.
- Collaborating with stakeholders - Work closely with product managers, business users, analysts and other engineers to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
- Applying engineering best practices - Use SOLID principles, object-oriented design, design patterns and appropriate software engineering practices to produce high-quality maintainable solutions.
- Supporting production systems - Investigate issues, troubleshoot applications, improve performance and contribute to the reliability and resilience of production services.
- Driving continuous improvement - Identify opportunities to improve existing systems, processes and engineering practices while keeping up with emerging technologies.

What You'll Need
- Full-stack engineering experience - Around 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong background in enterprise application development.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals - Good knowledge of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, design patterns, algorithms, data structures and writing clean, maintainable code.
- Python development - Strong commercial experience with Python, including frameworks and libraries such as FastAPI, Flask and Pandas.
- Frontend development - Practical experience with React, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend development approaches.
- API and application development - Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and integrating applications with other enterprise systems.
- Database experience - Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle, with exposure to NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB.
- Cloud and DevOps - Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions and shell scripting/Bash.
- Testing and quality - Experience writing automated tests and working within engineering environments where code quality, reviews and maintainability are important.
- Communication and collaboration - Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and explain complex technical concepts clearly.
