Functional Business Manager - Powertrain

At Aston Martin, we are driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence, combining cutting-edge engineering, world-class craftsmanship, and iconic design to create some of the world's most desirable luxury performance vehicles. As we continue to shape the future of our product portfolio, we are seeking a highly capable Functional Business Manager - Powertrain to play a pivotal role in enabling the successful delivery of our engineering programmes.

This is a strategically important position within the Powertrain Engineering function, responsible for leading and governing operational, financial, and resource management activities to ensure efficient, structured, and business-aligned programme delivery. Acting as the senior interface between Engineering and the Engineering Business Office (EBO), you will provide the leadership, insight, and governance necessary to support the function's long-term success.

Working closely with functional leaders, you will help define and shape both short and long-term business strategies, identifying risks, opportunities, and priorities across the engineering portfolio. You will be responsible for leading operational governance activities, providing data-driven insights that enable informed decision-making, and supporting leadership teams in navigating increasingly complex programme demands.

A key aspect of the role will involve driving cross-programme prioritisation, ensuring that engineering activities remain aligned with organisational objectives and product delivery milestones. You will oversee departmental budgets, managing expenditure related to programme delivery, innovation initiatives, and capability development while maintaining clear visibility of financial performance and potential risks.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will take ownership of engineering resource planning, defining and maintaining resource requirements to CPSC level and ensuring alignment with evolving programme and departmental needs. Through close collaboration with subsystem teams and programme stakeholders, you will develop robust resource plans, generate standardised capacity profiles, and provide transparency across current and future workload demands.

The role also carries responsibility for monitoring programme costs and expenditure, ensuring alignment with the wider Engineering budget managed through the Engineering Business Office. Additionally, you will manage software licence requirements and planning activities, supporting operational efficiency and future business needs.

Beyond financial and resource management, you will play an influential role in programme coordination, ensuring platform releases are aligned to programme introduction timing and supporting the delivery of cross-carline component development activities. As a senior operational representative for the Powertrain function, you will work extensively with stakeholders across Engineering, Programme Management Teams, Finance, Purchasing, Design, Launch, Facilities, Planning, IT, and the Engineering Business Office to ensure collaborative and successful programme execution.

The successful candidate will ideally be degree qualified, although significant relevant experience will also be considered. You will bring extensive experience within an OEM or automotive engineering consultancy environment, with a strong understanding of Product Creation processes and programme delivery. Experience driving business process improvements within engineering organisations, coupled with strong financial awareness and resource planning expertise, will be highly valued.
