The Role
We're looking to recruit an Functional Forward Deployed Engineer (Manufacturing Value Chain) to act as the crucial bridge between traditional manufacturing business operations and cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Applying a first-principles approach, your core objective is to deconstruct complex business processes down to their fundamental constraints (bottlenecks in time, cost, quality, decision-making) and solve them using applied AI. You will act as a key leader in our consulting organization, identifying, defining, and shaping AI interventions across the end-to-end manufacturing value chain—from New Product Introduction (NPI) to After-Sales.
Your Profile
Your responsibilities:
-
Value Chain Analysis & First-Principle Deconstruction
- Enterprise Process Mapping: Map interconnected value chains—spanning R&D/NPI, Procurement, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, and After-Sales—to identify fundamental systemic inefficiencies.
- Constraint Breakdown: Use a first-principles approach to isolate the root cause of business constraints and determine if they are mathematically solvable using data and AI.
- Cross-Functional AI Ideation: Proactively identify high-value AI opportunities across the lifecycle (e.g., generative design in NPI, dynamic inventory in Supply Chain, yield optimization in Manufacturing, predictive lead scoring in Sales, or intelligent warranty analytics in After-Sales).
- Feasibility Assessment: Evaluate the technical feasibility and business viability of proposed AI interventions in the context of the client's existing enterprise architecture.
-
Client Engagement & Solution Shaping
- Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary functional advisor to executive client stakeholders across departments (e.g., VP of Supply Chain, Plant Managers, CMOs, Head of R&D).
- Business Case Architecture: Define the ROI, cost savings, and operational impact of AI initiatives to secure stakeholder buy-in, ensuring solutions target fundamental business value.
- Workshop Facilitation: Lead discovery workshops and design thinking sessions to translate ambiguous, enterprise-wide business challenges into structured AI project requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
