Doncaster College is seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Maths Lecturer to teach Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level to Level 1 across a range of further education programmes. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting learners to achieve their goals through engaging, high-quality teaching and individualised support.
Working within the Functional Skills team, you will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons, assessing progress, preparing learning materials and creating a positive learning environment where all learners can thrive. You will also contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance activities and the ongoing improvement of learning programmes.
This role would suit an enthusiastic maths specialist who enjoys working with learners from a variety of backgrounds and is committed to delivering excellent teaching, supporting learner achievement and contributing to the continued success of the curriculum area.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Functional Skills Maths teaching from Entry Level to Level 1 across further education programmes.
- Plan and prepare lessons, learning materials and schemes of learning to support learner progress.
- Assess learner work, provide feedback and accurately record learner achievement and activity.
- Create and maintain a positive classroom environment that supports individual learning needs.
- Contribute to curriculum development and the enhancement of maths provision.
- Support the management of learning programmes through appropriate assessment, learner guidance, coaching and mentoring.
- Contribute to course verification, course leadership activities and the effective day-to-day delivery of programmes.
- Participate in quality assurance processes, self-assessment activities and action planning.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support continuous improvement and learner success.
- Engage in continuing professional development and mandatory training requirements.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a Level 5 teaching qualification, have substantial industrial experience, or be working towards an appropriate teaching qualification for unqualified lecturers.
- Have relevant subject expertise in mathematics and hold a relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification associated with mathematics.
- Have experience in a lecturing or training role within the Further Education sector or a secondary school environment.
- Hold GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4-9 (A-C) or equivalent, and have experience delivering Functional Skills Maths at Entry Level.
- Demonstrate effective lesson planning and delivery, knowledge of education and training initiatives, curriculum development and the use of information and communication technology (ICT) to support teaching and learning.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths at Entry Level through to Levels 1 and 2 for re-sit students within a UK Further Education setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of internal quality processes and procedures.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
- Salary: £33,787 - £42,766 (Grade 5)
- Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
- Hours: 35.5 hours per week
- Working Weeks: 52 weeks
- Location: Doncaster College
- Reporting Line: Curriculum Lead for Functional Skills / Curriculum Lead
- Core Working Hours: 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 4:00pm Friday
