Functional Skills Tutor (Maths & English) - Alternative Provision
Location: Oxford Hours: 15-20 hours per week (4 days per week) Rate: £23.50 per hour + 10% preparation and administration allowance Start Date: Immediate Start Available

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established education provider that delivers specialist alternative provision programmes for young people who require additional support to succeed in education.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Functional Skills Tutor to deliver engaging Maths and English sessions to learners aged 14-19, many of whom have additional learning needs. The role offers the chance to make a genuine impact by helping learners build confidence, achieve qualifications, and progress towards positive outcomes.
The Role
You will deliver Functional Skills Maths and English at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 through a combination of one-to-one and small group sessions.

The successful candidate will be able to engage learners who may have previously faced barriers to education, adapting their approach to meet individual learning needs and creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging Functional Skills Maths and English sessions
- Identify learner strengths, gaps in knowledge and barriers to learning
- Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes
- Support learners to achieve and exceed their individual targets
- Develop learning resources and assessment materials
- Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records
- Conduct regular reviews and provide constructive feedback
- Promote safeguarding and learner wellbeing at all times
- Contribute to positive learner engagement and attendance
Essential Requirements
- Recognised Teaching Qualification (AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
- Minimum 1 year's experience teaching Maths and/or English
- Experience working within education, training, further education or alternative provision settings
- Experience supporting young people with additional learning needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to deliver creative and engaging lessons
- Strong organisational and time management skills

Please also note that this position is offered on a self-employed basis. The successful candidate will be required to invoice the company directly for the hours worked, and payment will be made against submitted invoices in accordance with the agreed terms.
