Are you an experienced tutor who enjoys helping learners build confidence and achieve their Functional Skills qualifications?
We’re looking for a motivated and learner-focused Functional Skills Tutor to deliver high-quality English and maths teaching and assessment at our Catterick Garrison location.
You’ll support learners with different starting points and individual needs, delivering engaging Functional Skills training, monitoring progress, and providing the guidance and encouragement they need to achieve. You’ll also play an important part in maintaining accurate learner records and ensuring delivery meets awarding organisation and quality requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Delivering Functional Skills maths and/or English teaching and assessment
- Carrying out initial and diagnostic assessments to identify individual learner needs
- Planning and delivering engaging Functional Skills courses
- Marking assessments and providing clear, constructive feedback
- Supporting learners with information, advice, and guidance throughout their programme
- Identifying learners who may require additional support and escalating concerns where appropriate
- Maintaining accurate learner and course records
- Supporting the coordination and invigilation of examinations
- Contributing to standardisation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement activity

What you’ll bring
- Experience delivering training and assessing learners
- Functional Skills Level 2, or equivalent
- A Learning & Skills Mentor Level 4, CET, or equivalent qualification, or willingness to work towards
- The ability to deliver and assess Functional Skills up to Level 2
- Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and engage learners
- Experience adapting teaching and support to meet different learner needs
- Good organisation, time management, and digital skills
- Experience within FE, apprenticeships, or work-based learning would be an advantage
