We have several part-time hybrid roles available at our clinics across Northern Ireland: Belfast, Foyle, Ballymena, Omagh, Enniskillen, Coleraine, Portadown, Newry, and Armagh.
If you’re a registered nurse, paramedic, occupational therapist, or physiotherapist ready to move away from shift work and hands-on care, this role could be your ideal next step.

As a part-time Functional Specialist, you’ll leverage your clinical expertise and analytical skills in a structured way:
- Assess claimants in person, via video, or via phone
- Write detailed reports and deliver clinical recommendations
- Enjoy flexible hours with minimal disruption to your work/life balance
⚠️ Important: You must be available to commit to an 8-week paid full-time training period before your part-time role begins.

- Starting salary: £39,500 (rising to £40,500 after DfC approval)
- 10% Salary Bonus Scheme (performance-based)

Job Description
Core Responsibilities
This role provides structured health assessments to evaluate how a patient’s physical or work-related ability is impacted by their condition and helps the Department for Communities (DfC) make fair benefit decisions. Your duties include:
- Conduct detailed health assessments (in-person, video, or telephone):
- 2–5 assessments per day, depending on case complexity
- Produce comprehensive, evidence-based reports (typically 3,000–4,000 words)
- Reports support factual and justifiable recommendations for DfC
- Analyse health conditions and their impacts on daily life/employability
- Continuously deepen expertise across various medical conditions
Key Responsibilities
✔ Empathetic assessments: Strong observational and listening skills when speaking with claimants ✔ Accurate analysis: Careful interpretation of clinical evidence, alongside supporting documentation ✔ Time management: Meet daily targets without sacrificing report quality ✔ Flexibility: Occasionally adjust to new systems while working remotely ✔ Communication: Writing detailed reports with clear clinical justifications
About You – Required Qualifications
To apply, you must meet the following:
- ONE of the following professional registrations (with valid PIN & no current restrictions):
- NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council)
- RN/Registered General Nurse (RGN), RMN, or RNLD
- HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council) for
- Paramedics
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapists
- GMC (General Medical Council) for Doctors
- NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council)

Minimum 1 year’s post-registration experience

Ability to produce clear, accurate, and detailed reports

Fast, target-oriented work style

Strong IT skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Willingness to learn new systems remotely

Excellent observation and communication skills
- Empathy, deep listening, and the ability to clarify and dig deeper in discussions

Valid driving license or reliable transport (required for clinic visits)

Security & Compliance
