FUNCTIONAL SPECIALIST – HEALTHCARE ASSESSMENT

Join Capita Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS), where you’ll provide unbiased, comprehensive assessments for claimants of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP)—conducted over the phone, via video call, or in-person at one of our assessment centres.
Job Description: Key Responsibilities
This role is ideal if you’re a healthcare professional seeking a non-face-to-face career—no direct clinical care. Instead, you’ll evaluate and assess how health conditions or disabilities impact an individual’s daily life, helping DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) make informed decisions.
What You’ll Do:
- Conduct assessments (initial reviews, telephone, video, face-to-face) to evaluate the impact of a health condition or disability on daily living.
- Observe and record an individual’s ability to perform daily activities.
- Analyse clinical evidence and produce comprehensive reports (3,000–4,000 words) supporting key decisions for the DWP.
- Up to 3 reports per day (mix of written, video, and in-person assessments).
- Justify recommendations with detailed observational and clinical evidence.
- Expand your knowledge of diverse health conditions—focusing on areas beyond your direct clinical specialised.
- Work in a hybrid model, primarily from home while supporting in-person assessments at designated centres via a rota.
This role is stationary but variable, focusing on documentation, analysis, and communication—tapping into your clinical expertise in a new way.

What You’ll Need:
✅ One year+ post-registration experience as:
- Registered Mental Nurse (RMN)
- Registered General Nurse (RGN)
- Registered Nurse in Learning Disability (RNLD)
- Occupational Therapist
- Physiotherapist
- Paramedic
✅ Fully registered (UK regulatory body like NMC or HCPC) with no restrictions or pending conditions.
✅ Timeline: Must have a valid PIN for Healthcare Professionals.
✅ Core skills:
- Excellent assessment & observation skills—with deep empathy to build trust and gather detailed insights.
- Fast writer—able to meet productivity targets effectively.
- Limitless digital comfort—confident with IT systems, Microsoft Office, plate forms, and remote work.
✅ Mobility: Valid driving licence or access to a vehicle for in-person assessments at nearest centres.
Additional Notes:
🔐 Vetting standard: Government baseline personnel security check (covers both spent & unspent convictions)—mandatory for this regulated role involving vulnerable adults.
Working Hours (Post-Training):
- Hybrid role (work mainly from home).
- After training, you can opt for a part-time contract:
- 22.5 hours or 30 hours per week
- Working patterns: 4 days (e.g., 8am–6pm)
- Haline: During initial training (first 8 weeks), you’ll need to work full time.

- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
- Universal Credit (UC)
