ROLE TITLE: Functional Tester

LOCATION:

Winchester or London – IBM office, minimum 3 days per week

INITIAL WORKING PATTERN:

5 days onsite during the first month, subject to project requirements

CLEARANCE:

BPSS and client clearance required

MANDATORY:

Minimum 5 years’ UK residency; candidates must currently be based in the UK


We are actively looking to secure a Functional Tester to support a major Department for Work and Pensions transformation programme.

Job Purpose / The Role

As a Functional Tester, you will support the definition and delivery of testing activities across the programme. You will contribute to test strategy and planning, create and execute test artefacts, manage defects and provide assurance that the refactored application meets functional and quality requirements.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a large, complex programme environment and collaborating with technical, business and client stakeholders.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support the definition of test approaches, strategies and plans for the re-factoring and migration of key applications.
  • Analyse requirements and develop appropriate test scenarios, test cases and test artefacts.
  • Execute functional testing throughout the application migration lifecycle.
  • Validate that the refactored application meets agreed business, technical and quality requirements.
  • Support integration testing across application interfaces and connected systems.
  • Record, manage and track defects through to resolution.
  • Produce clear and accurate test evidence, reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with IBM, DWP, client and other supplier teams to coordinate testing activities.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and release-readiness assessments.
  • Identify risks, issues and dependencies that may affect testing or deployment.
  • Support continuous improvement of testing processes, standards and best practice.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Functional Tester or Quality Engineer.
  • Experience defining test approaches, test strategies or test plans.
  • Strong experience creating and executing functional test cases and test scenarios.
  • Experience producing test artefacts and maintaining test documentation.
  • Experience recording, managing and retesting defects.
  • Ability to work effectively within large, complex or multi-disciplinary programme teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience collaborating with client teams, technical teams and delivery partners.
  • Minimum 5 years’ UK residency.
  • Must be currently based in the UK.
  • Ability to complete mandatory BPSS screening and the required client clearance process.

  • Experience testing applications being migrated to AWS.
  • Experience working in a multi-supplier environment.
  • Experience testing integration points or supporting integration-focused projects.
  • Experience working on public-sector, government or highly regulated transformation programmes.
  • Experience working within an IBM delivery environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery and structured quality-assurance processes.
