Looking for some wonderful people to assist Chaffinch in fundraising our fundraising efforts, providing ways for our supporters to donate and also engage new audiences to increase Chaffinch's income.

What difference will you make?

Chaffinch is still a relatively small charity with a modest annual turnover. Many will overlook us as being insignificant amongst the larger charities. However, Chaffinch has scope to make a very real difference to the children of Kibera but we are currently unable to achieve our potential due to a lack of experience and knowledge in some important fields. Finding the right volunteer for this role could mean the difference between a charity that helps a few young people and a charity that generates real opportunity and hope for children to build successful lives for themselves and future generations.

What are we looking for?

Our ideal volunteers will have experience of fundraising, particularly in the small charity sector and/or the international development field. They will understand both the possibilities and limitations of small charity fundraising. An understanding of popular fundraising methods is vital but we are also looking for someone who can personalise such methods.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The volunteers will need to be able to adhere to strict ethical guidelines and understand the reasons behind their implementation. It is vital that the volunteers portray the charity and its beneficiaries in a way that supports the overall aims and mission of Chaffinch. Therefore, a strong understanding of the charity's purpose is essential.

More than anything else, our ideal volunteer will have a passion for the work of Chaffinch with the children of Kibera.

We actively welcome volunteers who are excited by Chaffinch's mission to create sustainability for local projects and who are committed to their own personal development within the role.

We love to watch our volunteers grow even if that means growing beyond Chaffinch. We would hope that a volunteer in this role would gain just as much as they give.

What will you be doing?

We need volunteers passionate about using their skills to really make a difference. We are currently 100% volunteer-run from the CEO to the SEO expert. However, we can make a budget for fundraising activities.

This role will involve getting creative with fundraising efforts and potentially leading teams to make those ideas a reality.

We are looking for people who can work independently but also as part of a team of fundraising volunteers implementing fundraising strategy.

We are a small and friendly charity expecting effort rather than perfection!
