Help Support Young People at Ross-On-Wye & Monmouth Sea Cadets
Use your creativity to develop fundraising ideas or connections to raise funds, secure grants, and build community support so our cadets can enjoy life-changing experiences on and off the water.
What Difference Will You Make?
By helping us with the fundraising for our charity, you will be an integral member of our Sea Cadet team. As a Sea Cadet, young people flourish, learn key life skills, and achieve qualifications in a range of areas, all of which boosts their confidence as they prepare for the rest of their lives. Sea Cadets offers a chance to broaden life experiences – whether that’s challenges and experiences like rowing around the UK, sailing on a tall ship, crewing a yacht around the Scottish islands (most of which is heavily subsidized) or meeting weekly to work together at their unit. It gives them a chance to explore their abilities and test their skills, as they work together as a team.

Sea cadets learn a wide range of skills with us, from watersports to leadership, presentation skills, first aid, and seamanship skills such as knots, navigation, and marine engineering. Our incredible volunteer support offers valuable role models and mentors for young people, and our units provide a sense of family and belonging. We are often a lifeline to young people who are bullied at school, offering stability and security to those in foster care and we are a pathway to meaningful careers and further education for those that struggle at school.

What Will You Be Doing?
The tasks of our Fundraising & Grants Champion will include but are not restricted to the following:
- Proactive identification of potential funders for projects
- Complete, and support us with, grant funding applications, from inception and application through to satisfaction of post-grant requirements of funders.
- Advise on other possible fundraising opportunities and strategies
- Liaise effectively with other members of the Unit Management Team and Unit Staff
- Engage with local businesses and organizations
- Engage with local fundraising awareness and networking groups
- Engage with the Marine Society & Sea Cadets national fundraising team
- Attend a regular UMT meeting - usually 1.5 hours, monthly, on a weekday evening
