Fundraising Manager – Fundraising & Philanthropy
£35,000 FTE
Initial 6-month contract
Hybrid – Winchester / Home
Potential permanent opportunity
This is a great opportunity to join an established cultural charity at an exciting point in the development of its fundraising function.
The organisation is broadening its income streams and developing areas including philanthropy, corporate partnerships and charitable giving. As Development Manager, you will work closely with an experienced Head of Development who has a strong track record of building successful fundraising teams and developing people within them. This means the role offers more than simply covering an existing position. You will be joining while the wider team is being reshaped, with the opportunity to learn, contribute ideas and potentially help influence how the role develops longer term. The appointment is initially for six months, but there is genuine potential for it to become permanent as the new structure takes shape.
The role
You will support the development and delivery of fundraising activity across a broad portfolio of work, including:
- developing relationships with donors and supporters;
- helping to grow philanthropy and giving programmes;
- supporting the development of a corporate partnerships pipeline;
- researching prospects and building fundraising pipelines;
- developing and writing funding applications;
- supporting donor stewardship and fundraising campaigns;
- working across the organisation to identify new fundraising opportunities;
- maintaining accurate fundraising data and supporting income reporting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The wider remit includes generating voluntary income, digital and venue-based fundraising, funding applications, donor stewardship and stakeholder engagement.
About you
This is not an entry-level fundraising role.
You should already have practical fundraising or development experience and be comfortable taking responsibility for your own work. You will need experience of raising funds, managing stakeholder relationships, researching prospects or funders and building pipelines. Experience of successful funding applications is also important.
You do not need to be the finished article. The opportunity would suit someone who already has a good grounding in fundraising but now wants broader exposure, greater responsibility and the chance to learn directly from an experienced development leader.
An interest in arts, culture or heritage would be useful, but is not essential.
Flexible working
The role offers a genuinely flexible hybrid arrangement. The team normally spends Wednesday and Thursday together in the Winchester office, with the remaining days generally worked from home. There will occasionally be meetings or events at venues elsewhere in the region.

Why consider this opportunity?
For someone looking to develop their fundraising career, this offers the chance to join while something is being built rather than stepping into a completely fixed structure.
You will gain exposure to new income streams, work closely with an experienced Head of Development and have the opportunity to grow with the team. For the right person, there is also the potential for the role to develop into a permanent position.
