I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We’re looking for someone with at least one year’s experience in a fundraising role who is organised, enthusiastic and confident building relationships. You’ll need to be comfortable picking up the phone, having conversations and making connections, as well as writing clear and engaging funding applications and communications.
Working in a small, women-focused charity, you’ll be close to the work and able to see the difference this makes to the lives of women in Hillingdon. This role offers exposure to a broad range of fundraising activity, giving you the opportunity to build on your existing experience across trusts and foundations, individual giving, corporate partnerships, community fundraising and supporter engagement. As we move into a new fundraising strategy, you’ll have the opportunity to play an important role in putting our plans into action and helping to grow our fundraising.
