Fundraising & Partnerships Officer – International Donors
Salary: £25,000 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Edinburgh or Dundee
Reports to: Deputy Director of Fundraising (Philanthropy)
About Kids Operating Room
We believe in a world where every child has equal access to safe surgery.
That doesn’t seem like such a big ask. Every child has a right to life and that shouldn’t be taken away by an injury or illness that can be easily fixed. Children who battle cancer and undergo chemotherapy shouldn’t get to the end of that process only to be denied the surgery that will offer them the chance of survival. Children who break an arm or a leg shouldn’t live the rest of their lives in disability.
Babies who need simple procedures in the first hours of life shouldn’t be left to die, and children born with urological conditions shouldn’t be denied an education because they can’t access the simple operation they need.
Our mission is to:
- Provide dedicated, specialist facilities and equipment for children’s surgery in low-resource settings.
- Support surgical teams to deliver safe surgery for children.
- Evaluate and report on our impact.
- Advocate for children denied access to safe surgery.
About the Role
You will work closely with our fundraising team on international donors, partnerships, events, proposals and new ideas.
You might spend one morning researching a prospective international philanthropist, the afternoon preparing a briefing for a donor meeting, and the next day helping turn conversations with colleagues in Malawi, Pakistan, Palestine or Uganda into compelling programme information or a funding proposal.
A major focus of the role will be supporting Kids Operating Room’s collaboration with the American Scottish Foundation (ASF).
ASF is an independent US 501(c)(3) charitable organisation. Kids Operating Room and ASF are working together to build greater support for children’s surgery initiatives and connect a growing community of US supporters with this mission.
Through this collaboration, Kids Operating Room provides programme information, impact evidence, stories, budgets and other materials that help ASF and its supporters understand the need for children’s surgery and the difference investment can make.
ASF provides the independent US charitable giving and grantmaking route. Contributions from US supporters are made to ASF, which retains legal control and independent discretion over the charitable use and grantmaking of funds it receives.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
One of your biggest responsibilities will be helping Kids Operating Room develop and manage its collaboration with the American Scottish Foundation.
Working closely with colleagues at Kids Operating Room and ASF, you will help coordinate programme information, donor stewardship, research, communications and other activity supporting the shared ambition of improving children’s access to safe surgery.
Kids Operating Room works with donors and partners across countries, cultures and time zones. You will help us manage and deepen those relationships.
This could include:
- Researching prospective philanthropists, foundations and partners.
- Preparing donor profiles and meeting briefings.
- Writing tailored donor communications and updates.
- Helping create stewardship plans for important supporters.
- Developing presentations, proposals, reports and project summaries.
- Gathering information from colleagues across programmes, finance, communications and monitoring and evaluation.
- Helping colleagues turn complex programme information into clear, compelling donor communications.
- Turning a meeting into a clear list of actions and making sure they happen.
- Creating a tracker for a new fundraising initiative.
- Researching an organisation before a senior meeting.
- Coordinating input from colleagues in several countries for a funding proposal.
- Helping organise a small donor event in London, New York or elsewhere.
- Building a short briefing on a new country, partner or funding opportunity.
- Helping develop a new fundraising idea from an early concept into something we can present externally.
Qualifications and Experience
If you have a degree, it could be in international relations, politics, development, history, economics, public health, languages or communications, but it is not essential.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication.
- Experience with a CRM or donor database is useful but not essential.
- Comfortable using everyday digital tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and email.
- Knowledge of writing a fundraising proposal is advantageous but not essential.
- You do not need previous fundraising experience.
