Fundraising & Partnerships Trustee
We’re seeking a Fundraising & Partnerships Trustee to help our North West youth charity grow sustainable income, develop meaningful partnerships and create more opportunities, programmes and support for children and young people.
What difference will you make?
This role will help Change The Youth NW build the sustainable income and partnerships needed to grow our support for children and young people across the North West.
As we develop, we want to move beyond responding to individual funding opportunities and build a planned, diverse approach to income generation. Your expertise will help us identify which opportunities are right for CTYNW, develop stronger relationships and ensure growth is financially sustainable.
Your contribution could help us secure the resources and partnerships needed to increase the number of young people accessing mentoring, activities, workshops, trips, residential experiences and other support.
It will also help us:
- Develop longer-term relationships with businesses, funders and community partners
- Reduce reliance on individual funding sources
- Create new programmes and increase available places
- Reach young people in more communities across the North West
- Strengthen our ability to plan programmes beyond short funding cycles
- Develop an operational fundraising and partnerships function as we grow
- Attract partners who can contribute expertise, opportunities, facilities or experiences as well as funding
The impact is ultimately about what additional and sustainable income allows us to provide.
A successful partnership might fund places on a residential, provide equipment or experiences, support a new youth programme, enable us to employ delivery staff or allow us to reach a community where young people currently have fewer opportunities.
You will help us build the relationships and financial foundations that turn those ambitions into sustainable programmes for young people.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who can bring strong fundraising, partnerships, income-generation or business development experience to our Board and who is excited by the opportunity to help grow a developing youth charity.
You do not need to be an expert across every area. We are particularly interested in experience in one or more of:
- Fundraising strategy
- Trusts and foundations
- Grant funding and bid development
- Corporate partnerships
- Sponsorship
- Business development
- Major donors and philanthropy
- CSR, ESG or corporate social impact
- Commissioning and contracting
- Strategic partnership development
- Income diversification

Most importantly, we want someone who can think strategically. This is a trustee role rather than an operational fundraising position, so you should be comfortable helping set direction, assessing opportunities, asking constructive questions and supporting the Board to make informed decisions.
We’d particularly value someone who is:

- Able to recognise when an attractive funding opportunity may not be right for the charity
- Collaborative and comfortable working with trustees, staff, volunteers and external partners
- Willing to use their professional networks appropriately
- Passionate about improving opportunities for children and young people
Experience within the charity or youth sector would be valuable but is not essential. Relevant experience from businesses, professional services, fundraising agencies, public services or other sectors is equally welcome.
Previous trustee experience is also not required. We welcome experienced professionals considering their first Board position and can support new trustees in developing their understanding of charity governance.
We particularly want someone who understands that successful fundraising isn’t simply about securing the largest possible amount of money. We want to build sustainable relationships with organisations that share our values and pursue opportunities that genuinely help CTYNW deliver better outcomes for young people.

Change The Youth NW is entering an exciting stage of development. We are strengthening our Board of Trustees and building the foundations needed to grow our programmes, partnerships and reach across the North West.
As part of this, we are developing a diverse, skills-based board that can provide strong strategic oversight while supporting the development of an effective operational team.

We’re looking for a Fundraising & Partnerships Trustee who can take the lead at board level in helping us think strategically about income generation, fundraising and external partnerships.
This is not a role where we expect a trustee to personally write every grant application or become the charity’s unpaid fundraiser. We want you to help us look at the bigger picture how CTYNW develops sustainable and diverse income, builds meaningful long-term relationships and creates the financial foundations needed to grow our work with young people.
You will work with the Chair and wider Board to help shape our fundraising and partnerships direction, provide advice and constructive challenge, identify opportunities and support the development of realistic plans that can increasingly be delivered by our operational team, volunteers and future staff.
Areas where we would particularly value your input include:
- Developing our fundraising and partnerships strategy
- Identifying sustainable and diverse income opportunities
- Developing relationships with businesses, funders and strategic partners
- Supporting our approach to trusts, foundations and grant funding
- Exploring corporate partnerships, sponsorship and social impact opportunities
- Helping develop compelling propositions for potential partners and supporters
- Advising on major funding opportunities and associated risks
- Strengthening how we communicate our impact to funders and partners
- Helping develop fundraising capacity within our future operational team
- Using your experience and networks to open conversations and opportunities where appropriate
There is plenty of opportunity to make this portfolio your own. You’ll be joining at a stage where you can genuinely influence how CTYNW approaches fundraising and partnerships as we grow.
We are also open to hearing from experienced fundraising, partnerships or business development professionals who want to support CTYNW but may not currently want the full responsibilities of trusteeship. Opportunities may include a future working group, advisory position or skills-based volunteering.
Ultimately, stronger and more sustainable income means more programmes, more places and more opportunities for young people across the North West.
