About us

At Macmillan Cancer Support, we do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. Behind everything we do are people who choose to stand alongside us — and for many, that support begins by remembering someone important to them.

We’re looking for a Fundraising Programme Manager (In Memory Giving) to help us create thoughtful, meaningful experiences for people who choose to give in memory of someone they love. This is an opportunity to use your skills in project delivery, relationship building, communication, people leadership and decision-making in a role where your work will have a genuine human impact. For this role you don’t need previous experience in fundraising, in memory giving or the charity sector. What matters most is that you bring strong transferable skills, sound judgement, curiosity and the ability to build trusted relationships. We’ll help you develop the specialist knowledge you need.

What you’ll do

You’ll lead a programme of giving and engagement activity across different channels, making sure it delivers both for our supporters and for Macmillan.

You’ll:

  • Plan and deliver multiple projects, campaigns and activities, managing competing priorities, budgets and timelines to achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues, external partners and suppliers, bringing different perspectives together and influencing people towards shared goals.
  • Champion the supporter experience, using empathy, sensitivity and good judgement when dealing with people in personal or emotionally sensitive situations.
  • Manage budgets and resources, using performance information to understand what’s working and make informed decisions about where time, effort and investment should be focused.
  • Lead and develop a direct report, setting clear expectations, providing feedback, supporting wellbeing and creating an inclusive environment where people can do their best work.
  • Use data, insight and feedback to identify opportunities to improve our activity and turn learning into practical action.
  • Manage partners and suppliers, setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, resolving issues constructively and ensuring we achieve the right quality, service and value.
  • Build your specialist knowledge, understanding relevant policies, legal and ethical considerations and knowing when to seek advice from colleagues with specialist expertise.
  • Help create an environment where equity, diversity and inclusion are embedded in the way we work and where everyone feels respected and able to contribute.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we’re looking for

This role is about what you can do, not simply what sector you’ve worked in.

You’ll be someone who can demonstrate:

  • Excellent planning and delivery skills – you can take complex work, turn it into clear goals and actions, manage competing priorities and find solutions when things don’t go to plan.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication – you build trust quickly, adapt your communication style to different audiences and can bring people together, including when you don’t have direct authority.
  • Confidence managing budgets and resources – you’re comfortable understanding financial or performance information and using it to make decisions that deliver value and achieve outcomes.
  • People leadership skills – you know how to motivate and support others, set clear expectations, have constructive conversations, give meaningful feedback and help people develop.
  • An analytical and improvement-focused mindset – you use data, evidence, feedback and insight to understand performance, challenge assumptions and identify practical ways to improve.
  • Sensitivity and sound judgement – you’re comfortable handling personal or complex situations with care, professionalism and respect, and you know when to listen, when to act and when to seek specialist advice.
  • Above all, you’ll bring curiosity, compassion and a willingness to learn. You’ll be motivated by the opportunity to make a difference and able to connect the work you do every day with the people and communities Macmillan exists to support.

You don’t need to be a fundraising expert

We know that great people can come from many different backgrounds.

You may have experience in customer experience, marketing, account management, project or programme delivery, commercial partnerships, events, communications, service management, community engagement or another people-focused environment.

What matters is that you can demonstrate the skills we need and have the appetite to learn.

We’ll support you to build your understanding of:

  • In memory giving and how people choose to support Macmillan in memory of someone important to them.
  • How we engage and communicate with supporters across different channels.
  • Relevant fundraising, legal, compliance and data protection requirements.
  • Macmillan’s processes, partners, suppliers and specialist teams.
