Help a growing education charity build a sustainable funding base
Depending on your experience, you could research funders, develop grant applications, improve fundraising materials and systems, or help shape our longer-term fundraising strategy.
What difference will you make?
Fundraising is central to Coempowered’s next stage of development. Much of our educational work has so far been developed through volunteer effort, and building a more sustainable funding base will allow us to strengthen our programmes and organisational capacity.
Your contribution could help us identify funding opportunities we would otherwise miss, submit stronger applications and build the systems and evidence needed to develop longer-term relationships with funders and supporters.
This will ultimately help us provide sustained, high-quality educational opportunities for more children, young people and young adults, while investing in facilitator development and reducing reliance on a small number of people.
For experienced fundraisers, there is also an opportunity to influence how a developing charity builds its fundraising approach from an early stage.
What are we looking for?
We welcome applicants with different levels of fundraising experience. You do not need to have all the skills below.
Relevant experience could include
- fundraising or grant fundraising
- bid or proposal writing
- funder and grant research
- fundraising strategy or planning
- donor or partnership development
- research and information gathering
- strong written communication
- project or programme development
- charity, education or community-sector work.

For volunteers who would like to contribute to fundraising strategy or lead substantial funding applications, relevant fundraising experience will be important.
For other parts of the role, we are happy to consider people with strong transferable skills who want to develop their fundraising experience.

We are particularly interested in people who can work independently while collaborating with others to gather the information needed for applications and fundraising projects.

What will you be doing?
We are looking for volunteers to help Coempowered develop its fundraising as we enter an important stage of our growth.
Coempowered is a small education charity focused on philosophical inquiry, critical thinking and dialogue. We work mainly with children, young people and young adults, including Persian-speaking communities from Afghanistan and Iran, with Kurdish-language provision also developing.
This is a varied opportunity that can be shaped around your experience, interests and strengths. You do not need to be experienced in every area of fundraising.

Depending on your experience, you could help us with
- researching trusts, foundations, grant programmes and other funding opportunities
- identifying funders that fit our work, beneficiaries and stage of development
- maintaining a funding pipeline and application calendar
- researching funder priorities and requirements
- writing and developing grant applications and expressions of interest
- adapting proposals for different funders
- developing our case for support and core fundraising materials
- gathering programme, impact, budget and organisational information for applications
- developing project and programme funding proposals
- keeping records of applications, deadlines, outcomes and follow-ups
- researching potential donors and partners
- contributing to fundraising planning and strategy.
We welcome people at different stages of their fundraising development. An experienced fundraiser could take greater responsibility for strategy, planning and developing applications. Someone earlier in their career could focus on areas such as research, maintaining our funding pipeline, preparing supporting information or contributing to applications.
We can therefore agree an initial area of responsibility based on your skills and experience, with opportunities to develop your role over time.
We are particularly looking for people who are reliable, thoughtful, able to work independently and committed to producing careful, high-quality work.
