£32,000 - (£26,600 basic + on‑call allowance and call‑out payments)
A long‑established, family‑run Funeral Directors in Basingstoke is looking for a reliable, practical, and compassionate Funeral Operative to join their close-knit team. No previous funeral experience needed — just the right mindset, professionalism, and willingness to learn.
What You’ll Do
- Support funeral services as a driver and bearer, ensuring dignity throughout
- Take part in a 24/7 on‑call rota (approx. one week in three)
- Assist with the care of the deceased and accurate handling of belongings
- Help prepare coffins, caskets, and the funeral home
- Maintain vehicles to exceptionally high standards
- Ensure services run smoothly, including checking floral tributes
- Work calmly and respectfully with families and colleagues

What You Need
- Full UK driving licence
- Able to reach the office within 60 minutes when on call
- Physically fit and comfortable with lifting and hands‑on work
- Dependable, organised, and calm under pressure
- Strong communication skills and a naturally empathetic approach
- Team-focused attitude and willingness to learn
