Gambling Support Practitioner
Permanent | Full time – 35 hours per week
Location: Yorkshire and Humber – home based, with travel across the region as required
Salary: £29,479 pa
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to people experiencing gambling-related harm and help them take positive steps towards recovery and lasting behavioural change.
Founded in 1997, GamCare is one of the leading providers of information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling harms. We operate the National Gambling Helpline, deliver free treatment services across multiple regions of Great Britain and raise awareness of gambling harms through prevention programmes.
As a Gambling Support Practitioner, you will manage your own caseload and provide safe, effective and person-centred psychosocial interventions to adults at different stages of their recovery. Working within GamCare’s Model of Care, you will undertake assessments, develop formulations and co-produce recovery plans, delivering brief, structured and relapse-prevention interventions according to individual need. You will use evidence-based approaches, including CBT-informed and motivational techniques, and deliver support through a combination of face-to-face, digital and telephone appointments.
Alongside treatment delivery, you will play an important role in identifying and managing risk, including safeguarding concerns, mental health needs and financial vulnerability. You will work within established governance and professional frameworks, exercising sound judgement and escalating concerns appropriately where greater complexity or risk is identified.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will be a confident and empathetic communicator, able to engage effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. You will be organised, comfortable managing competing priorities and confident using case management systems, digital platforms and remote-delivery tools.
Previous experience of supporting people affected by gambling-related harm or other addictions would be advantageous but is not essential.
