This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Game Developer - Voxel-Based Engine (Java) based in United Kingdom.
This role offers the opportunity to build and evolve a custom voxel-based game engine from the ground up.
You will work on challenging low-level game development problems involving rendering, performance optimization, world systems, and internal tooling.
The position is ideal for a developer who enjoys understanding how systems work beneath the surface and creating innovative technical solutions.
Working remotely, you will collaborate with a distributed team while having significant influence over core game architecture and engine development.
You will contribute to a creative and technically ambitious project where experimentation, problem-solving, and engineering excellence are highly valued.
This is an exciting opportunity for a developer passionate about graphics programming, game systems, and building advanced technology from the foundation level.
Accountabilities
- Develop and enhance systems within a custom voxel-based game engine, contributing to core architecture and gameplay technology.
- Implement rendering systems and graphical features supporting Minecraft-style voxel environments and immersive visual experiences.
- Work with spatial data structures, world generation systems, and voxel-based environments to improve engine capabilities.
- Optimize memory usage, performance, and resource management to ensure efficient engine operation.
- Implement ray casting, ray tracing, and related graphical techniques where applicable.
- Integrate 2D, 2.5D, and 3D assets, including assets created with tools such as Blender, into the engine pipeline.
- Build and maintain internal development tools for asset management, loading systems, builds, packaging, and testing workflows.
- Explore and prototype future-facing features, including AI capabilities and external API integrations.
- Identify unclear requirements, ask the right questions, and proactively help define technical solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with remote team members while independently managing development tasks and priorities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
