Games Coach (Rugby)
Old Swinford Services Ltd is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Games Coach (Rugby) to join our team of teachers and specialist coaches. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of our afternoon games programme, after-school coaching, co-curricular sport and competitive fixtures.
Working closely with the Director of Sport and Head of Rugby, the successful candidate will play an important role in the continued development and success of the rugby sports programme.
Person Specification
The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate
- Minimum RFU Level 1 coaching qualification
- Ability to coach pupils across a range of ages and abilities
- Ability to lead and manage a year-group rugby programme
- Competence in refereeing junior Rugby Union
- Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to the development of young people through sport
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider sports and pastoral team
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Job Specification
The main responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Deliver high-quality Rugby Union coaching and sports lessons to pupils across the school, from Year 7 (U12) through to Year 13 (U18)
- Plan, organise and deliver rugby training sessions appropriate to the age, ability and development needs of pupils
- Take responsibility as a Lead Coach for an allocated year group, providing consistent coaching, organisation and pastoral support
- Be competent and confident in refereeing junior Rugby Union fixtures, ensuring matches are conducted safely and in accordance with the laws of the game
- Support and encourage competitive inter-school sporting opportunities for pupils across all age groups and abilities
- Support, mentor and develop pupils, promoting positive attitudes towards sport, teamwork, discipline, commitment and personal development
- Act as a positive ambassador for the Rugby Department and promote the values and ethos of Old Swinford Hospital through coaching and interactions with pupils
- Contribute to the development of a positive and inclusive rugby culture within the school
- Support the promotion of the Rugby Department and Old Swinford Hospital, including attendance and participation at:
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Sport, Head of Rugby and wider PE/Sport staff to support the ongoing development of the school’s sporting provision
- Contribute to the organisation and smooth running of fixtures, training sessions, competitions and other rugby-related activities
- Maintain appropriate standards of safeguarding, pupil welfare, behaviour, discipline and professional conduct always
- Attend relevant meetings, training and professional development opportunities as required
- Undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities that may, from time to time

Hours and Remuneration

This is a zero hour contract - a maximum of 25 hours, including 5 hours on a Saturday, for afternoon games programme, after-school coaching, co-curricular sport and competitive fixtures.
A remuneration package will be agreed upon appointment depending upon qualifications and experience.
In line with current regulation you will, if you are eligible, be offered a workplace pension through NEST.
