About the Games Rating Authority
The Games Rating Authority (GRA) is the UK's statutory administrator of the PEGI video game age rating system, responsible for ensuring that video games released in the UK are classified clearly and responsibly.
Operating since 1989, originally as the Video Standards Council, the GRA oversees age ratings for video games and plays an important role in helping parents, players, and industry professionals understand the nature and suitability of video game content.
The GRA is closely connected to the video games industry and works with publishers, developers, and international bodies on matters relating to age classification.
Responsible to: Operations Manager
The Role
We are looking for a Games Examiner to join our team in Stevenage.
The Games Examiner is responsible for examining video games and apps submitted for age rating and assessing their content against the current PEGI criteria. This involves detailed and sustained examination of gameplay, accurately recording relevant content, applying classification criteria consistently, and producing clear written reports.
The role requires someone who can look beyond their personal response to a game and assess content objectively against an established set of criteria. You will need to be comfortable examining a wide variety of games and genres, including games that may contain mature, challenging, or sensitive content.
You will also communicate with publishers and other industry contacts, both verbally and in writing, where clarification or discussion of a rating is required.
Main Duties
- Examine video games and apps requiring an age rating and assess their content against the current PEGI criteria.
- Accurately record relevant content identified during examination and prepare clear and concise examination reports.
- Apply and verify PEGI criteria consistently when determining age ratings and associated consumer information.
- Communicate with games publishers and other industry contacts, verbally and in writing, where required in relation to ratings.
- Manage the administration and record-keeping associated with examined games, including the appropriate handling of confidential information.
- Keep up to date with developments in video games, PEGI criteria, classification and relevant industry issues.
- Carry out general administration relating to the PEGI system and assist with wider office administration as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
