About The Role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Ganger to join our UKCS Scotland team on the Exxon Project in Dumbarton. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of essential civil engineering and infrastructure works, leading site activities and supporting operational teams to achieve high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
As a Ganger, you will be responsible for coordinating work activities on site, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and in line with project requirements. Working closely with Supervisors, Chargehands, and operational teams, you will help drive performance while maintaining a positive and collaborative working environment.
What you'll be doing
- Leading and coordinating site-based gangs to deliver construction and civil engineering activities safely and efficiently.
- Supporting the Supervisor with the planning and organisation of daily work activities.
- Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards and promoting a positive safety culture across the workforce.
- Carrying out and supporting works including earthworks, drainage, concreting, and other general civil engineering activities as required.
- Monitoring progress on site and escalating any issues, hazards, damages, or delays that could impact delivery.
- Ensuring all relevant task briefings and site communications are completed prior to works commencing.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, productivity, and housekeeping across the work area.
- Collaborating effectively with colleagues, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to achieve project objectives.
- Participating in Daily Activity Briefings and other team meetings, contributing ideas for continuous improvement.
- Supporting and mentoring team members, sharing knowledge, and helping to develop skills across the workforce.
- Taking responsibility for maintenance and inspection checks on equipment and ensuring records are completed accurately and on time.
- Acting as a role model for safe working practices and positive behaviours, and supporting temporary supervisory responsibilities when required.

You Will Have
- Previous experience within a civil engineering, infrastructure, or construction environment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to coordinate and motivate site teams.
- A proactive approach to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
- Experience working to work package plans, method statements, risk assessments, and site-specific procedures.
- The ability to identify and resolve on-site issues and communicate effectively with Supervisors and wider project teams.
- A CSCS or CPCS competency card relevant to the role.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support colleagues when required.
Desirable Qualifications And Experience Include
- NVQ/SVQ or equivalent industry-recognised qualifications.
- Additional site-based competencies such as MEWP, Fire Marshal, Traffic Marshal, Lift Supervisor, or similar.
- Experience leading teams and coordinating multiple activities on busy infrastructure projects.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and helping others develop their skills and knowledge.
