Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Royal Tunbridge Wells for a Ganger / drain layer / ground worker. The role involves supervising and coordinating a small team on groundworks and drainage projects, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Laying and maintaining drainage systems
- Excavating and preparing ground
- Installing pipes and related infrastructure
- Supporting landscaping and reinstatement works

The position requires reading site plans, adhering to health and safety procedures, liaising with site management, and maintaining accurate records of work completed. The successful candidate will work outdoors in varying weather conditions and collaborate with other site operatives and contractors to keep projects on schedule.

Qualifications
- Valid CSCS certification and CSCS Card, demonstrating eligibility to work on UK construction sites.
- Practical experience in Groundworks, including excavation, trenching, and preparation of sub-bases.
- Skills in drainage installation and maintenance, with knowledge of relevant standards and best practices.
- Experience with Landscaping tasks such as levelling, turfing, and site reinstatement after groundworks.
- Ability to work safely around Trees and other site features, with an understanding of environmental considerations.
- Proven experience leading or coordinating site teams, with strong communication and time-management skills.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to perform manual work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Familiarity with basic construction tools and machinery; relevant plant tickets (e.g., dumper, excavator) are an advantage.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and site procedures; commitment to health and safety compliance.
- Previous experience in similar roles within the construction industry in the UK is highly beneficial.
