PYRUS is a botanical design studio and cut flower garden based in East Lothian, a 30-40min drive outside Edinburgh city centre. Established in 2011 PYRUS is committed to agroecological principles while making change in the UK cut flower sector. The walled garden is 2.75 acres with just under half cultivated to flower production. The garden is the beating heart of PYRUS and requires a dedicated individual to keep it healthy. The role is varied and covers all aspects of crop production, garden care, planning, flower harvesting and sales.

Role Includes

  • Crop production and planning
  • All aspects of garden maintenance
  • Plant and soil care
  • Garden infrastructure development
  • Crop planning and record keeping
  • Improving sales systems and customer communications
  • Volunteer management

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years professional employment in horticulture/ crop production
  • Motivated, organised and self-driven, happy working as an individual
  • Clean driving license and ability to reach the garden independently

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a large garden or a small farm
  • Crop planning experience
  • Knowledge and experience in organic growing practices, soil health care
  • Budgeting experience
  • Experience and knowledge of garden machinery
  • Great initiative and communication skills, a friendly, positive disposition with a can-do attitude

Hours

24-32 per week, £14.50-15ph, running March- November, with the opportunity to develop into an annual salaried role.
