Detail

Gardener

St Albans School is a leading independent day school with an outstanding reputation for academic excellence.

We are seeking to appoint a Gardener to join the established Maintenance team. Under the direction of the Head Gardener, the job holder will carry out numerous gardening duties to maintain the landscaping, hedges, shrubs and lawns of the School site, whilst implementing the annual horticultural works schedule and delivering high-quality seasonal gardens and grounds.

Previous grounds maintenance/horticulture experience and qualifications would be beneficial (for example NPTC level PA1 and PA6a pesticide certificates, and an NVQ in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent). Suitable candidates must hold a current driving licence with category C1 or equivalent. Workload is heavily reliant on weather, therefore the ability to deal with a constantly changing workload is essential, as is a flexible and adaptable approach.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
