The role
Barnsley Thrive works with people who are over 25 from the Barnsley area who are homeless and have complex needs. The support we offer is across 3 support sites, which vary for the level of support people need.
Tasks may include:
- Tending to the garden on a regular basis.
- Complete gardening tasks such as planting, weeding, general tidying.
- Do general DIY & decorating jobs around project as agreed with Project manager.
- Use equipment in line with current risk assessments.
- Facilitate resident activities as agreed with Project Manager.
- Work with Project manager to identify grants that would assist DIY projects and external activities, apply if appropriate.
- Deliver findings and implement if appropriate.
- To comply with safeguarding policies and procedures and report any concerns immediately to a member of staff.
- To work within agreed professional boundaries at all times and in line with Waythrough policies and procedures.
- To make use of supervision and support and attend mandatory training.
Skills we would like you to bring to the role:
- Good IT skills.
- Good written communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to keep a track of multiple tasks and report back on progress.
- Non-judgmental towards people with lived experience.
- Confident to contact people by email / phone.
- Good time keeping.
- Able to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to instruction.

- A genuine interest in being part of the mission and vision of Waythrough.

Location:
William Street, Barnsley, S70 5HA
Timing:
Our houses are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This particular role is looking for someone to volunteer at daytime hours during the week. Exact days and times are flexible and at the volunteer’s choice.
Training:
Prior to start date, a volunteer is required to attend the one-day induction workshop offered online or in person. Following start date, volunteers have access to our training platform, workday, and may be asked to complete several training modules applicable to their role within their first 3 months.
