About the Role
V&C Associates is partnering with a major global supplier, a business that designs, develops and manufactures Denim Garments for many of the world's most recognised high-street fashion brands. Their UK operation has grown significantly and they are now looking for a Senior Garment Technologist to join the team as the first point of contact for all quality, block and fit issues.
This is a senior, hands-on role at the centre of the business, linking design, production, mills, laundries and factories so that garments are produced accurately and efficiently. You'll work across casual outerwear and bottoms, with denim and washed product. You'll have full ownership of garment specifications and critical path management, from first proto through to production sealers. In washed product, fit and wash can't be separated.
Key Responsibilities
Wash Technical & Garment Performance
- Manage pre-wash and post-wash measurements, and make sure patterns carry the correct shrinkage, skew and wash allowances for every process.
- Build and maintain wash allowance data by fabric and process, so blocks are engineered for the finished garment rather than corrected after the event.
- Work with mills and laundries to approve wash standards, and keep shade, cast, hand-feel and finish consistent from sample to bulk.
- Assess denim and washed fabrics for shrinkage, stretch and recovery, growth, torque and leg twist, and advise on suitability for the intended wash.
- Understand dry and wet finishing processes — sanding, whiskering, grinding, destruction, enzyme, bleach, tint, overdye, laser and ozone — and their effect on measurement, strength, appearance and garment life.
- Check that trims, threads, labels, pocketing, interlinings and hardware can withstand the wash process, including hardware attachment and pull strength, and that placement survives abrasion and destruction.
- Assess washed garments for defects that only appear after finishing: seam pucker, fabric damage, uneven abrasion, back-staining, shading across panels and within batches.
- Review and sign off wash submissions and gold seals alongside the Designer and laundry, and hold those standards through production.

Fit & Specifications
- Own the fit of garments across all product categories, from first proto through to production, including outerwear, woven shirts and denim bottoms.
- Bring specialist knowledge of denim bottoms block fit — rise, seat, thigh, knee and leg opening — and how each moves through the wash.
- Measure all samples pre- and post-wash, and create, amend and maintain fully graded specifications with technical drawings and diagrams where needed.
- Work with the Designer and Account Manager on fits, and assess factory and laundry capabilities ahead of first samples.
- Organise and lead fit meetings with the Production team, and give clear, concise fit comments to all factories.
Patterns & Critical Path
- Liaise with factories to make sure patterns are amended correctly, track in-house patterns, and check graded patterns before production.
- Work with the Design team and Account Manager to prioritise styles and patterns against the critical path, allowing realistically for wash development and standard approval.
- Attend regular design meetings with clients and update the team on sampling progress.
Fabric, Quality & Production
- Work with factories and mills to assess fabrics and identify suitable vendors, across denims, twills, shirtings and technical outerwear fabrics.
- Review lab test results and resolve issues such as shade variation, shrinkage, colourfastness, rub fastness, back-staining and seam slippage.
- Make sure all relevant people across departments are updated on QA issues or product changes.
- Work closely with — and travel to — factories and laundries so that product meets the required quality standards.
- Check that bulk fabrics, wash standards and gold seal samples are ready for production, and that factories have everything they need to deliver a first-class product.
- Spot-check production through store and warehouse visits so that finishing is of a first-class standard.

Technical Support
- Act as the main contact for factories and laundries on technical issues or queries throughout sampling and production.
- Help the Design team convert sketches into Illustrator flats, and use Excel and PLM systems to build accurate specifications.
About You
- Strong hands-on knowledge of denim and washed fabrics, wash processes, and their effect on fit, measurement and garment performance, gained working directly with mills and laundries — this is the core of the role.
- Proven senior-level experience as a Garment Technologist across multiple product categories for high-street fashion brands, with denim bottoms as a core strength.
- Confident engineering patterns and specs for a finished, washed garment, and holding standards through to bulk.
- Experience with casual outerwear, including technical fabrics, and woven shirts.
- Strong understanding of pattern cutting, grading, garment construction and manufacturing processes across the global supply chain, including the Far East.
- Proficient in Excel and Adobe Illustrator. Experience with PLM systems and 3D fit software such as CLO or Browzwear is a plus.
- Experienced in a fast-paced, high-street or supplier-side environment, with an understanding of how a workroom operates.
- A perfectionist with a practical, commercial approach and excellent attention to detail.
- A team player who stays calm under pressure and works closely and constructively with factories and laundries.
